We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

It seems a bit odd that London’s 1st ever ” hotel week “, hasn’t been covered by Hfp. There seems some decent deals for families etc.

    • Rob says:

They didn’t bother sending us anything and the offers didn’t seem better than Emyr could get you, although I haven’t gone through every single one.

      • ChrisC says:

It was hardly the most impressive website!

Just a search / list for some hotels (35 in total!).

No links to any other offers in the city to enourage visitors

  • Venturelog says:

Has anyone booked via the Hotel week for London promo? Any substantial benefits over booking via Emyr?

    • Rob says:

Will vary on a hotel by hotel basis, annoyingly. Emyr stays generally work off Best Flex Rate so if LHW is giving you a discount and benefits you may come out ahead, but it depends if the LHW offer includes a $100 or so hotel credit or equivalent.

      • Venturelog says:

Thanks Rob. There may well be a deal in there somewhere but didn’t have the time to go through all of them. Corinthia interested me but there rates start at £600 and get a £100 credit or £200 if you get a suite.
It doesn’t look like a coordinated effort from the hotels to offer any substantial benefits, on top of the fact there may well be restrictions for spas pools etc

I only looked at Hilton Bankside and it looked exytraordinarily expensive

Posted in Bits but meant to put on chat..!

Can anyone confirm please if spend at Sainsbury’s petrol station counts for spend towards the CC bonus ? Doesn’t seem to be excluded in the t&cs but does exclude Sainsbury’s ‘services’….

  • AlanC says:

Sorry if posted previously. Got a mailing from Amex for referral of BAPP and get 12k avios. Next box says recipient will get 30k avios if spending £1000 in 3 months. However next page says £3000 spend.

  • Gavin says:

I booked a flight for £160 ish during the BA black Friday promotion (20% discount code). Recently cancelled and got an evoucher for the booking for £200 ish – the value of the booking before the promotion code was added. Thanks BA!

  • Benilyn says:

Booked a return flight I with Avios redemption with BA. Can I call and drop the return leg (even if it costs £35), or do both legs need to be cancelled (running the risk it does no go back to reward inventory)?

  • Jim C says:

    Grateful for any advice

The outbound for my CW flight to California next month has been cancelled.
This was an avios redemption combining (1) lloyds upgrade voucher (which expired in Jan), and (2) the 50% off avios redemptions that was running in October.

They’ve offered an alternate flight departing later that day, or alternatively to cancel without charge. In the email they’ve said

“”If a voucher has been used against this booking, then these will be extended, to make another booking by 31st October 2021. This will be a book by date, not a travel by date.””

Presumably its just the upgrade voucher that will be extended, rather than the 50% off redemption offer.

Due to travel restrictions I probably wouldn’t have been able to travel anyway.

What is my best option? Thinking either

    – Date change to preserve the 50% Avios discount?
    – Or cancel and take the extended upgrade voucher (but likely have to rebook at full avios price)?

Not a surprise really but the 380 just appears to have been pulled from the schedule for June, together with a load of flights. Was due to do an out and back to SFO / LAX in F and got an email yesterday saying the cabin was changed. On closer inspection the flight had been cancelled and the remaining frequency downgauged to a 78-9. All booked while being eternally optimistic that they will actually let us out by then!

    • Tariq says:

Received canx emails from BA for outbound flight to NYC in F on 03/06/21 today.

      • Anna says:

Hopefully you’ll be able to move to another flight the same day? It’s not good news though if BA are cutting services wholesale in June, might suggest that even if we’re allowed to travel this summer either the USA still isn’t going to let us in or BA isn’t expecting enough demand to make it worthwhile.

      • Ben says:

I’ve had a cancellation in F for a flight back from JFK in June too (the daytime flight). Looks like it might just be an equipment change for the morning flights till July as Club World and lower still seem to exist at that time.
