The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 13th April

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Got an email from Barclaycard, £10 off £100 spend at prezzee smart e gift card. Transferable easily to Amazon or Uber. (barclaycard platinum)

    • Andrew says:

      Yes, mentioned it yesterday.

Works well, can split your £100 between multiple cards. I spent £90 on Prezzee and had £100 in my Amazon account in about 3 minutes.

      • Andrew says:

And I think it’s a discount code isn’t it, so one doesn’t even need to wait for the credit back to the account.

        • Andrew says:

Yeah, straightforward code that gives a £10 discount on a £100 card.

          • 747_Brat says:

            Andrew replying to Andrew! 🙄
For a moment, I thought he was answering his own question!

          • James says:

Do we really know that he isn’t? This site can do strange things to people… 🙃

      • SteveKicks says:

Is it possible to hold multiple barclaycards?

  • David says:

    Morning all.

Considering shifting my Avios 2-4-1 West Coast USA flights from July to August.

Am I right in thinking I should be able to take a FTV and immediately re-book (there is masses of availability for Aug) saving the £35 change fee?

Would this cause any issues with the booking later down the line i.e. if the August flights were cancelled would I be eligible for a cash refund still?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Sam G says:

You can just change it for free – should work online

      • David says:

Ahh yes, change fees are waived for date changes.

Looks like I can’t do this online however, probably because it’s an open jaw.

        Thanks!

  • Optimus Prime says:

Avios booking cancelled by BA – can I still choose any other dates with no Avios availability?

The website is telling me this for a set of dates they’re selling cash tickets: ‘There is no availability for selected date. Please change your date.’

    • Rhys says:

Yes, EU261 makes no exemption for Avios availability 🙂 however, ba.com probably isn’t kitted out to do this – try calling

  • DK says:

Is it possible to see charges on Creation app? Or do I have to wait until the statement date to see if I got charged?

    • Brighton Belle says:

When your statement is generated you get the £ surprise

      • Genghis says:

Cash advances are charged when the transaction clears.
Interest is charged on statement date.

        • DK says:

          Thanks both.
As I thought but wanted to check.

          • Blair says:

Where in the statement does it show charges? Page 1 summary or the list of dated transactions?

    • Brighton Belle says:

On my statements it’s the last line of the transaction history and is called ,
Interest on Cash followed by a line
Interest Charged @ 2.071% per month.

If you had no interest charge there’s nothing reported

  • Andrew says:

Any news on when the Nectar / Avios transfer system will be up and running again?

The problem, surprise, surprise, is at BA’s end.

    Thanks

    • Andrew says:

No. Although my last transfer took 4 working days and the call is answered immediately, so I’m kind of not too bothered about them fixing it, although it would be slightly more convenient.

      • Andrew says:

After some discussion with BA on Twitter, using an alternative browser (Safari, not Chrome) allowed me to log in and do a transfer.

  • r* says:

Friend is currently in india and they have cancelled her return flight (a domestic to BOM then to LHR), instead wanting to move her flight to a day earlier. She doesnt want to leave a day early.

BA are currently selling a cash ticket on the date of her original booking that comprises of a domestic to DEL then LHR, but BA are refusing to move her to that saying they would need to charge cancellation fees etc.

She is entitled to be moved to that under eu261 isnt she? What are her options if BA continue to act like BA?

    • John says:

Buy the new ticket and sue BA

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Ring them again. Failing that, get a written statement saying they won’t rebook you and go ahead and buy the tickets. Claim it back later plus costs and 8% statutory interest

    • Lady London says:

Give her a Newcastle number tp disl for BA and dial it when UK is open but hopefulky BA’s Indian call centre are asleep To make sure, she should dial from Skype or other VOIP if she can to try to avoid being diverted to BA’s India call centre anyway.

She does have the right to insist on travelling same day or a later date convenient to her not BA. She should ask nicely agsin then quote EU261 duty of care if no duce. Couof again request thus after that mentuoning if BA is not able to still carry her on same dsy she will be forced to book a oublic price air ticket on a different airline which BA will be obliged to oay her cash cost of plus all duty of care costs pkus 8% UK statutory rate of interest payable on the lot.

If she is willing to travel a day or few later then BA is liable for extra accommodation costs paid out, transport to and from accommodation, and 3 meals per day extra waiting at local rates or airport rates if thar’s where she is stsying.

Procedure 3 days ago posted here by Jonathan, Lady Lonfon then meta a few posts later. Then 2 days before that. Also other times this daily thread but that will be all ahe needs.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

      • r* says:

It seems like the re-arranged flight BA was offering actually has the second flight departing before the first has even taken off lol, so theyre going to need to offer something different anyway.

        • Lady London says:

give it about 3 days. BA system does automatic rebook after some cancellations as a first pass… then seems to so something that makes more sense on a further pass a day or two later.

The outcome she wants will be same anyway probably so I’d call anyway.

Just try to avoid being default forwarded to BA’s Indian call centre as I suggested. They’re the reason I’ve suggested things that might have got £3m+ out of BA’s hands they might have otherwise kept from tired passengers.

I think this is the link/thread being referred to, or at least one of them anyway: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2021/04/08/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-8th-april/comment-page-4/#comment-609850
Have been itching to post a link to it!

  • Alex says:

Currently have a free BA AMEX card (downgraded from BAPP last month) and I want to be referred by my partner in order to get advantage of the referral bonus. Which card won’t impact my ability to get the platinum later on?

Also, Rob do you think those referral bonuses will make a come back in the future?

    • Joe says:

You can get a Platinum at any time (with sign up bonus) as long as you haven’t had a MR enrolled card in the last 24 months.

So any card apart from one which gives you Membership Rewards.

  • Benilyn says:

Does Qatar family account same way as BA/Emirates?
