The HfP chat thread – Sunday 11th April

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

HBOS (inc Lloyds) have them, as well as Santander.

  • Mart says:

    Need 2k virgin points
I begrudge buying them especially with admin fee!

    Anyone any ideas?

    • ChrisC says:

if you need them urgently then buying is the quickest way

The others via shopping portals etc can take several weeks to post.

    • Travel Strong says:

IHG points can transfer to Virgin (terrible rate).
Amex points are the only instant option AFAIK.
Virgin credit cards are great if you can wait until the statement date.

  • Mart says:

    I’ve emptied all my pots
Do virgin holidays bookings booked with amex double the reward points?

  • stevenhp1987 says:

Wales: Am I correct in assuming regular hotels are open as they’re self contained (have en-suite facilities and room service).

Looking to stay at a HI outside Cardiff on the M4 jct 32 for Brecon Beacons in the next couple of weeks.

Went there a few times last year and was a useful base for hiking.

  • David B says:

Doesn’t look good for anyone planning a trip to China any time soon – apologies if this has been covered already but I just saw on BBC news:

“Beijing… said in March that obtaining visas would be easier for foreigners who have received a Chinese vaccine”.

    • Rob says:

And yet, reports this morning that the Chinese are now accepting that their vaccine doesn’t work very well. This is why Chile is now having a 3rd wave despite a huge vaccination campaign with the Chinese vaccine.

The UAE is now offering 3rd injections to people who got the Chinese one after very low levels of antibodies were detected. Unfortunately this is also potentially going to ensure that the UAE doesn’t go onto the Green list.
