We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions. With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Does anyone know if you can keep your companion platinum credit card account open, if you close the platinum charge card account? I want a MR amex to keep my point balance available.

  You cannot. Just apply for or be referred for the free Memberships Rewards amex to keep your MR alive. Or downgrade the Platinum charge card to the gold charge card.

  Some people have managed this, many other haven’t. Amex Rewards Credit Card has the same benefits though (free, 1 point per £1).

Increased Amex referral bonuses until 12th May:
Refer FROM a Gold card = 6,000 + 6,000.
Applying FOR Gold card = 22,000 + 10,000

(applying for other cards also higher bonus than normal, but not as much)

Has this just gone live today? I haven’t noticed it mentioned anywhere, and fairly sure it wasn’t shown on my Gold card a few days ago.

      I really recommend it however for certain stocks such as on the AIM market, orders can get stuck for hours or infinitely compared to mainstream services.

Has anyone who has been referred to Amex platinum (personal) since the higher referral/sign up bonuses got their card yet? Wondering if the new platinum card holders can also refer others and get the increased referral bonus? Would like to recommend a few people but will hit that 90k annual referral limit too fast…
