We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

It does happen on my XPS 9370 (i7 8th Gen) which is black. But it doesn’t happen on XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 (i7 10th Gen) which is white. The surround is more textured, and it seems to stay clean. Not sure whether 2-in-1 is why, or newer model, but the screen is slightly recessed from bezel so doesn’t sit on the base when closed, as the other problem with the older design is the finger oil always making the screen dirty once it’s been closed.

Does closing a credit card on amex affect chances of approval on a new application? friend currently has 2 credit cards but would like to refer him for the platinum, I know from experience 2 credit cards is the limit, would it wise to cancel one of the credit cards or just leave it? he was previously denied the green charge card (not sure why) whilst holding a gold credit card

    • Lee says:

Don’t think there is a 2 credit cards limit any more

    • TGLoyalty says:

I have 2 charge and 2 credit. I’ve had 1 charge and 3 credit before (I hope I will again in May)

    • HeadingForNoPoints says:

Would refer him for platinum or green charge, just wasn’t sure why he wasn’t approved for the green charge when he had gold credit (in good standing) a year ago.

Looks like BA cancelling LGW short haul today. Just had a couple flights to Nice in AUGUST moved to LHR.

Is this the end of the line for BA at LGW?

    • GEORGE says:

Having the same issue as well – not had formal confirmation of cancellations though

    • gasman says:

Looks like it’s moving all the way up to October. My October half term Dalaman trip is now leaving from LHR

      • Louie says:

Thanks for the heads up. LGW way more convenient for me but the earlier arrival time into LHR probably makes up for it.

    • PMG says:

Exactly the same for flights in July…suits me well having to drive one hour less to get there though 🙂

    • Anna says:

That would be handy for me as in the event we don’t go to AGP this summer it will save me 4 x cancellation fees.

    • Craig says:

Been waiting for this to happen so I can book parking.

  • Pete M says:

One has to love BA. Booking some flights using an FTV earlier – agent quotes £260. I tell her I can see it for £240, without hesitation she goes “fine, you can have it for £240″…

    • Aston100 says:

Please tell me your response was “…err I mean £140, I saw it for £140… yes”.

      • Pete M says:

Darn… this is why I am still only an apprentice at this game! 🙂

        • ChrisC says:

That would be taking the proverbial

I had something similar last year when the fare quoted was more than the online fare so I gently pointed that out. Agent asked if I was still in the quote and to come out if I was. Then miraculously her price dropped!

          • Phil says:

Having been a revenue analyst for an airline, I can see how that would actually be the case.

    • Travel Strong says:

I once paid £5 online to reserve a “1 ticket left at this price” Club Europe fair… to reveal that the “next” batch of tickets were substantially cheaper! So of course ditched my £5 reservation to sweep up the next ticket.

  • Waddle says:

Are Black Lane bookings pre-paid? Have an Amex offer which expires before a planned journey and want to try to use it.

    • Sandra says:

IME I have always been charged immediately after the trip but it’s a couple of years since I last used them

  • AnotherUser says:

If anyone in Scotland fancies a cheap family city break, the Holiday Inn Express Glasgow Riverside is £40/night or 12,000 points for a family room at the end of the month. Would presumably work with the IHG offer for 5,000 points back on a 2 night stay too.

The hotel’s fairly basic, but if you’re looking for a cheap family break it seems like a good deal!

  • Aston100 says:

***Would presumably work with the IHG offer for 5,000 points back on a 2 night stay too.***
Sorry, where can I find details of this offer please?
