How to get Avis Preferred Plus status from your Priority Pass

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

If you have American Express Preferred Rewards Gold, your Lounge Club airport lounge access card has recently been upgraded to a Priority Pass.

This is a ‘win’ for Amex Gold cardholders, since Priority Pass has a broader range of partner lounges than Lounge Club.

Here’s something you didn’t know.  Holders of a Priority Pass airport lounge access card can claim Preferred Plus status with Avis.

Avis Preferred Plus usually requires five Avis rentals in a year and €1,000 of spending.

To be honest, the benefits of Avis Preferred Plus are not huge:

priority car availability

a free extra driver on every trip (already a free benefit if you book via the BA Avis website)

a complimentary one-level vehicle upgrade whenever possible

voucher for a free European weekend rental after your 3rd rental

You can find out more about the different Avis status levels on their website here.

You can claim your Preferred Plus status by following the link on this page.  There is also a notional ‘20% discount’ for Priority Pass members although this may not beat other partner rates such as the BA one.

If you are reading this from outside the UK, this offer may not be open to you.  You need to be based in:

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

If you are already a member of Avis preferred (via Amex platinum), and have a priority pass card via that route how can you upgrade an existing Avis account please?

  • Chrisasaurus says:

On rental, albeit not Avis – does anyone know for sure the expiry rules for Hertz gold points? AwardWallet says mine are expiring next month, anyone know my options?

    • Louie says:

Depends on your status. If you are Five Star or President’s Circle expiry is the later of 18 months since your last rental or 31 December 2021. If not, it’s simply 18 months since your last rental. Awardwallet doesn’t get the former correct.

Thanks! Yes PC – have a chunky balance so don’t want to lose it.

Had my eyes set on a redemption for august but availability vanished between searching and booking which was very disappointing with cash rates over 500/week!

You can get Presidents club (top tier membership) if you have a world elite mastercard.

  • David S says:

I have Presidents Club status from being stuck abroad during the first round of Covid and it’s a total and utter waste of time. I get a voucher for a weekend rental but it’s valid in the U.K. only. We have a car in the U.K. which is why we would never rent a car in the U.K. When you get a weekend voucher abroad, you can’t use it as part of a longer rental because the cost for the overall rental will be way higher by breaking it into 2 parts. Customer service is no benefit and you usually get the extra driver free by booking Flight plus Car through BA

On the flip side I booked a Jetta at JFK and while the masses queued for the counter, I walked straight to the PC lane, surveyed the options, jumped in a Jag and left for the week…

  • NickS says:

For me the one and only real benefit of Avis Preferred is avoiding some of the queues at airport rental desks as the Avis preferred clients cars are usually pre allocated and you can go straight to the vehicle. Can save a huge amount of time however sometimes it doesn’t work which can be frustrating but at least the “preferred” queue is usually much shorter than the regular one….

  • Roger says:

I jumped a 2 hour queue in Italy using preferred and get good cars in Geneva using it too. For me it is great

    • Lottie says:

It’s always great to have in Italy, where the queues always seem to be hours long in peak season without preferred.

  • Tom H says:

Does anyone know how to add this to an existing user?

  • Doug M says:

I’ll add this to the Hertz 5 Star via IHG that also doesn’t really work.
