The HfP chat thread – Friday 26th March

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Mike says:

If I pay off my IHG balance to ‘reset’, does it allow me to gain points for that month? Virgin has 8k limit and IHG 3k so hard to double dip…

    • Reney says:

IHG CC doesn’t have a cap like Virgin CC.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Spend away. Recycling mine many times a month

    • Eric says:

Thanks all. I’m very impressed by how people on here chalk up so, so many points! What do you guys use it on mainly? NS&I? HMRC?

  • Waddle says:

Is a Monese top-up using Curve + Virgin possible? And if so is it treated as a points-earning purchase?

    • mark2 says:

Yes ,but whether Monese charge you depends on your plan and the amount. On free card max is £200 per month. PayPoint topups now £14.95 for £1200 per month so no longer economic IMHO.

      • Jonathan says:

Does it require bendy metal or any bendy card ?

        • ashish says:

no just top up but i did get banned but many 100os per week

        • Memesweeper says:

Doesn’t require bendy at all for paypoint. There’s a very limited amount you can do in app IIRC.

Serious amounts may see your account closed. I really wouldn’t bother.

  • mart says:

Aiming to hit the biz gold bonus. If I spend £50 at dell (noting the £50 credit offer, so will be credited) will the spend count towards the 5k spend to hit the bonus or will it be a net zero spend?

  • Joe says:

The highlight of the virgin quiz was briefly (before that silly entertainment round and all went downhill from there) being ahead of Rhys!

  • Alan says:

Hi, is Bendy Metal working for anyone on NS&I.

Reason for asking is I am getting an invalid account status message from NS&I when trying to buy PBs but also having other problems on my Bendy account.

Bendy CS have advised that they cannot fix the account problem and have suggested they close the account and open another one for me. If NS&I not working anymore I may just let them close the account and save the fee..

    • Steve says:

No Metal, Bendy Blue and Ernie play very nicely. It’s a metal issue. Ironically you’re getting a worse service due to metal

  • Bill says:

Has anyone had their easyJet flight club membership renewed recently even though they haven’t flown in the last year or have taken very few flights ? Mine normally renews in May so just wondering what to expect as it kind of impacts my reservation strategy for next winter and summer

  • Tw33ty says:

From reading on here, I think I’ve picked up that paying seagulls with creators via bendy metal will work and won’t result in a cash advance fee.
I always assumed it wouldn’t work or be chargeable, but from what (I think) picking up on here is that it does work.
    Can anyone confirm.
