The HfP chat thread – Thursday 25th March

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

It’s only on your first purchase.

    Data Point:
    * Virgin Money account opened on 15th March.
    * Switch completed on 24th March.
    * And just received the code for 15k points, which I just redeemed successfully without any issues.

I know many of you are facing issues, but in my case it was as smooth as Tennessee whiskey! 🙂
Just keep screenshot of the account opening process every step of the way, in case push comes to shove!

  • Graham says:

Was searching for avios flights to Barbados and or Antigua for March 2022 and could find nothing. Have I missed the boat or have BA yet to release any redemption flights ?

    • ChrisC says:

BA release 4 economy and 2 club seats when flights forst go on sale If there are none showing then it’s likely they have already been nabbed. They may release more but likely not for some time.

BA have also only released booking dates up until 15th March 2022

      • The cyclist says:

@Graham, Its worth calling BA, if you are flexible on dates, mid week you will have a better chance, also be flexible on departure airports.

    • Anna says:

SeatSpy is showing a fair bit of economy availability up to March 14th, plus 1 J seatL on the return leg from BGI on a couple of dates. Like ChrisC says, these are the kind of routes where the premium cabin award seats get snapped up at T-355. If you’re set on one of these routes it’s worth waiting up till midnight (or 1 am from next week) to see what appears.

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

If I order a Greggs sausage roll for home delivery, do I get 10% of my Virgin points back?

  • AJA says:

Not sure that your plan will work as you are currently Blue. The status extensions are for all of those who already hold it and basically extending status even if you haven’t earned the required TPs to renew.

In your case the only benefit you have is the lower number of TPs required to achieve Gold status. It will still only be valid for the remainder of the year in which it is earned plus the whole of the following year. So if you get 1125 TP by 8 Sep 2021 you will only be Gold until 31 Oct 2022.

What we don’t currently know is if BA will continue with the lower TP requirements. As it stands they will revert to higher levels at some point.

  • Amy Kent says:

Anyone received the Daily Mail Nectar bonus? I was targeted for the bonus and have paid 2 DDs but still waiting for the bonus. Planning to cancel the DD but not sure if I should wait until the bonus is credited.

  • Anna says:

    https://bernews.com/2021/03/ba-delighted-to-launch-flights-from-heathrow/

Is this likely to be a permanent move, or will it revert back to LGW when travel begins to resume properly, I wonder?

This was supposed to be a new comment!

  • Doug M says:

Likewise, applied and heard nothing. Hertz customer service virtually non-existent so just moved on.

    • Doug M says:

This was reply to Aston100 on previous page.

    • Aston100 says:

Thanks. I’ll chase IHG in 4 weeks as they requested.

      • John says:

I tried for 3 successive years and never got it

        • Aston100 says:

Seems IHG benefits aren’t guaranteed then.
Obviously this is nothing compared to the free night certificate debacle, but still worth noting I suppose.
