British Airways is running ‘British Airways’ High Life Live: For the Love of Travel‘ next Thursday night.

(Don’t worry, it doesn’t clash with the Virgin Atlantic charity quiz. The BA event is 5pm to 6pm and the Virgin quiz runs from 7pm to 8pm. You’ve got your whole Thursday night sorted next week.)

Whilst the image above looks like a new Scandi-noir crime drama, this is how BA describes the event:

BA High Life Live

“Hosted by funny woman Sandi Toksvig (The Great British Bake Off and QI), High Life Live is set to be a night of question-asking, (insert your tipple of choice here)-drinking and celebrating holidays on the horizon.

Joining Sandi will be an illustrious travel panel you won’t want to miss: including BBC world affairs editor John Simpson, pilot, TV presenter and podcast host Kellee Edwards, blind adventurer and Celebrity Masterchef star Amar Latif and top chef Toni Toivanen.

There will also be an introduction from British Airways Chief Executive Sean Doyle.

During this evening of entertainment, our virtual globetrotter guests will have the chance to grill our travel enthusiasts.

Be sure to pack your wanderlust – we look forward to seeing you there.”

The event is free and will run on Zoom.

You need to register in advance if you want to join, which you can do on Eventbrite here.

  • Nick says:

Great to see John Simpson involved. For decades now I’ve skipped to his excellent travel and life experience articles in High Life magazine, pretty much as soon as seated on a flight.

  • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Weird decision to Photoshop out Sandi’s neck in the photo…

    • Rhys says:

They made the event look like a Scandi drama, too….

      • Michael C says:

Yes! If only they weren’t smiling – the three blokes at the back would have definitely snuffed it within the first half an hour!

      • ChrisC says:

“The Airport – Detective Toksvig investigates the disappearance of an airline chief executive recently passed over for promotion. The only clues – his left behind hi-viz jerkin and a train of regulatory and other failings …”

  • Phil G says:

Couldn’t really give a toss about what so called celebs think, and it’s only their opinion you’re getting. Surety a panel of countries travel ministers answering questions would be more beneficial

  • Chaz says:

If it were Sandi asking John Simpson questions (with much more him talking than her) I might be interested. The others – absolutely no interest in their opinion. Each to their own and I’m sure some will enjoy the event.

    • Peter K says:

      Good reply Mike P.
Though amusingly ironic how Jamie’s replies add so much less than those he is making fun of 😆

    • ADS says:

Apart from Sandi and John Simpson, I’ve never heard of any of the others

  • ChrisC says:

Strange how they call Sandi “funny woman” but don’t list anyone else’s gender.

Or does no one at BA use the term “comedian”?

They also missed off her greatest TV achievement being on “No 73”

    I’m never flying BA again!

    • The uncivil servant says:

Great to see a bit of diversity from BA, with Sandi Toksvig hosting, perhaps its time that HfP did an article on LGBT friendly resorts/ travel.

    • BSI1978 says:

I thought that, would Lee Evans or similar have been introduced as ‘funny man’ (granted he may not meet that criterion in any event).

Love that No 73 is referenced! Having spent some time growing up in Maidstone, it remains one of my regrets that I was never successful in the ballot to attend the TVS studios…..

    • Andrew says:

“No73” is always missed out from her achievements.

    • Hardpack says:

      Surely “comedienne”?

    • Garry Ballick says:

I think BA is trying to be positive, saying ‘look we have a funny female comedienne’, unfortunately they’re 20 years too late, as the comedienne is not funny for the current generation.

A lot of people are trying to make this a negative marketing ploy on the behalf of BA, however I feel this is a positive move to try and promote gender equality, regardless of talent.

    • Anne says:

No.73 is, in my humble opinion, unsurpassed in children’s tv programming

  • L Allen says:

Whoever did that photo of Sandi should be sacked. I didn’t recognise her she was so heavily photoshopped.

    • QFFlyer says:

Agreed, and they’ve made Toni Toivanen look like he’s off out to score illicit substances from behind a seedy night club…

  • steven says:

Sorry, but this looks a very average event.
Much more interested in a Q and A session with travel experts or BA executives.

  • Lady London says:

One day we will see Rhys on one of these

    • Rob says:

It would be a bit of a comedown after doing the ‘Today’ show for NBC in the US last year …

    • Chris Heyes says:

Lady London and i still wont be watching it (sorry Rhys)
Are people actually going to watch it ?
At least the Virgin one has a reason for watching (won’t be watching that either, but good luck Rhys hope you walk it)

    • The real John says:

Let’s have an LL talks about EC261 show
