American Express has launched a bonus Avios offer for British Airways American Express cardholders.

It is restricted to 80,000 cardholders so I recommend that you register now before Amex emails everyone about it.

This is how it works:

  • You receive 2 bonus Avios for every £1 you spend
  • This is on top of your 1.5 Avios per £1, or 3 Avios per £1 for ba.com spending
  • The bonus is capped at 4,000 Avios, representing £2,000 of spending
  • The promotion ends on 15th June
  • Spending by supplementary cardholders does not count – this is not mentioned made clear online

To register, go to the American Express website here, log in to your British Airways Premium Plus account and look for the following in your offers section:

OT. With the virgin reward+ MasterCard is it an upgrade voucher per £10k spend, or one a year?

  • Mouse says:

    Thanks Rob!

  • max28 says:

Is the 6,000 bonus avios offer when you upgrade from BA Amex to BAPP still live?

    • GS says:

Apparently not – I asked customer services this question recently. Although always a guessing game if they actually know that or not.

  • Freddy says:

Not bad, I’m seeing it as an extra £40 avios rebate on my normal spending. However the yearly fee on this card seems increasingly difficult to justify unless travel suddenly opens up

  • Ross M says:

Talking of being badly written, no excuse for the TYPO🙄😂

  • Andrew says:

The offer wording has been updated on the app now – 2 additional Avios for every £1 up to a maximum of 4000 Avios.

  • Rh says:

I just registered now and it still let me at this time!

Hi everyone, I’ve booked LHR-LAX in April by BA 241 voucher when BA promoted 50% off avios booking couple months ago. My flight has been cancelled by BA, it is still difficult for us to enter America now, hence I’m thinking to change my flight to later this year, but when I log in “Manage my booking” – “Rebook”, BA shows no availability for entire 2021, obviously that’s not true. I have to call their agent, do you guys know whether I can rebook for free (no additional avios, because BA has cancelled my flight), or I should be prepared to pay back further 50% avios? Thank you.

    • Chris says:

I think if it’s more than a year after the original booking you’ll have to pay the extra Avios.

    • Emad says:

My thoughts are that since BA cancelled the flight, you are entitled to a voucher which effectively freezes your ticket with the exact same conditions.

There is a long thread on Flyertalk, it’s been very variable. If you call in you might get to move it to 1 year from the date you booked – so say September time. But there are some reports the agents wanted more Avios to go past 30th June. You shouldn’t need Avios availability on the dates you wanted since BA cancelled the flights

Call in and see how you go!
