Register now: Amex offering bonus Avios to BA Premium Plus holders

American Express has launched a bonus Avios offer for British Airways American Express cardholders.

It is restricted to 80,000 cardholders so I recommend that you register now before Amex emails everyone about it.

This is how it works:

You receive 2 bonus Avios for every £1 you spend

This is on top of your 1.5 Avios per £1, or 3 Avios per £1 for ba.com spending

The bonus is capped at 4,000 Avios, representing £2,000 of spending

The promotion ends on 15th June

Spending by supplementary cardholders does not count – this is not mentioned made clear online

Shocking from AMEX but the urgency on here to save the offer before the other 79,999 members makes me laugh. I think you’ll find the vast majority of AMEX cardholders don’t sit refreshing this website every 15 minutes 😛

      My emails from Amex for offers tend to come in bunches, and don’t reflect the situation. Often referring to offers already used, or ones that have been on the account for several weeks.

    Scary the traffic power that site has, shame it’s a shadow of its former self. Very biased towards certainly retailers now. Possibly gamed. I’ve had many posts deleted referring to legitimate traders who have had better prices or better options but clearly don’t provide them with the same level of referral bonus. Plus the comments section is now a cesspool. Real shame.

Another error in Amex’s T&Cs for these offers is that Amex believes that GBP stands for “Great British Pound“. Amex’s error reminds me of Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ “Great British Air” in Come Fly With Me on BBC1 ten years ago.

Of course, ISO4217 currency codes are formed from a two-letter ISO3166 country code followed by the first initial of the currency name, and GBP is Pound Sterling. I wonder what Amex thinks JPY, CHF, ZAR, AED, KYD, LKR and DZD stand for.

I think we should know whether it is an extra 2 points per pound or 0.5 in the next few days when we spend and see the avios earnt. Hopefully its 2 extra points!

Just used my BAPP in Waitrose, Amex confirmation email said “Get 2 additional Avios”.

    Though given the t&cs in the email included this line:
    “2 flat Avios will be rewarded upon spend of £1 per UK Card up to 4000 Avios”.
    Which makes me reasonably confident I will be getting 1.5 + 1 (retention offer) + 2 (this new offer) = 4.5 avios per pound spent.
    However, I am unsure if this only applies for the first £2k spent, but it seems that way IMO.

    Although I didn’t use the card at “Avios” but rather at Tesco.
