American Express has launched a bonus Avios offer for British Airways American Express cardholders.

It is restricted to 80,000 cardholders so I recommend that you register now before Amex emails everyone about it.

This is how it works:

  • You receive 2 bonus Avios for every £1 you spend
  • This is on top of your 1.5 Avios per £1, or 3 Avios per £1 for ba.com spending
  • The bonus is capped at 4,000 Avios, representing £2,000 of spending
  • The promotion ends on 15th June
  • Spending by supplementary cardholders does not count – this is not mentioned made clear online

To register, go to the American Express website here, log in to your British Airways Premium Plus account and look for the following in your offers section:

  • Steve says:

I also have this on my regular BA Amex, saying that I did just downgrade from the Premium version a few days ago.

    • Rhys says:

Not on my free BA Amex sadly!

    • David says:

I have it on my free BA Amex card too, but I also downgraded on Sunday so perhaps I was already on the list!

  • Mr(s) Entitled says:

I’m often amused at just how bad people are at their jobs and yet still manage to be employed. It certainly isn’t unique to Amex.

    • NvT1115 says:

Cut and paste at it’s best … At worst it’s 0.5 bonus and hopefully we’ll see 3.5 showing up in the end. Just a shame it’s capped at 4k bonus. A few years ago they were offering 10k avios bonus for £10k in 3 months..

  • Tyler Durden says:

thanks for the heads up – ive signed up, its on our primary card but not supplementary (perhaps its because the sup is only a few days old) – oh and there was an 10% off uber eats too whilst i was there.

    • Iona says:

Not showing on our (well established) supplementary card either. Have reminded the other half to get me to buy things on his behalf for the next few months!

  • Andrew says:

The offer doesn’t appear on my account.

They may have got to 80,000 registrations already

    • Andrew says:

Correction: It shows up on the App on my iPhone, but not if I log into my account on my Mac.

      • Mr Alan Wan says:

Ditto, not on my desktop but offer on my phone app

        • Richie says:

Same for me – didn’t appear on my desktop (mac, Chrome), but did appear in the iOS app [at 11am]. So, just saved it on the app.

    • Grimz says:

It’s on mine at 9.32 so it’s hit the 80,000 members yet

  • Daniel says:

I got very excited when I first saw the title of this article. I thought the sign up bonus had been increased to 80,000 Avios haha

Phew, I’m winding down the clock to be eligible for a sign up bonus so I would have been devastated if it did increase in the short term

    • Louise K says:

      So did I!

Read about it at 6am on the chat thread so managed to register.

    • Tyler Durden says:

    • Mark says:

There seem to be some exceptions to the 2 year rule for sign up offers, like with and without a middle name counting as 2 different people. However, I find that the 9k refer a friend bonus and the 3k supplementary card bonus are worth more than 25k/2 years. (But then my total Amex spend is in excess of £2k per month, so I can churn with my wife as main about 2.2 times per year – earning 2 241s per year (so have about 5 or 6 of those being rolled forward……

  • Andrew says:

Another Amex dog’s dinner of an offer. Why don’t they just make things clearer? My reading of it is that it’s an extra 0.5 avios per £1 and a cap of 4000 avios including the standard 1.5 – so a max bonus of 1000 avios (£8). Not going to be deal of the century, but £8 is £8.

    • C says:

Question also if it will stack with any additional Avios retention offers that some of us may have. I would expect that these are separate, but one never knows how Amex IT works.

  • john browell says:

Thanks for the heads up – just registered on my account. It showed in the Travel category for me, but not at all for my wife’s supplementary card.

  • Fiona Whyte says:

I got up to 4000 avios on mine. Still to check if the OH got it on his supplementary card.
