We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Any decent Airtime Rewards referrals knocking about?

Or should I wait for a better offer to come along? (I’m in no rush)

    • Alex says:

Currently I have 50p and an extra £1 if you spend anything within 7 days😂 not sure if that’s normal or especially poor! But the code is: KGXYQTL4 if you want it.

    • HeadingForNoPoints says:

Wait until they do £1 + £4 if you spend is back.

      My code is: NWM87QEG

    • AndyGWP says:

thanks folks – I’ll hang fire – hopefully someone can shout out when the amount goes up 🙂

  • Secret Squirrel says:

Anyone here used the 10% CB offer at Morries on the Virgin credit card? Just wondering how long it takes to show the CB?

    • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

It disappeared from my account 48 hours ago as soon as I’d registered a new AMEX card?
      Mine was 6% this time

      • Secret Squirrel says:

        It disappeared? I’ve got 10% CB + 8 x points + 10% Airtime so a nice stack on JL / Waitrose GC’s, No Amazon GC’s in my store 😞

    • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

Shows pending in about 5 days and weeks before you get it credited

    • Reney says:

I went yesterday morning , nothing showing yet.

  • Garry says:

    • TGLoyalty says:

Best tweeting Shapps as no one here can tell you.

It’s only on the list because of the influencer uproar

  • idontfly says:

Checking seatspy there doesnt appear to be any availability from January 2022 back from Barbados, has Virgin not opened up reward seats yet? Thanks

    • Alex says:

Virgin release flights 330 days in advance so from today that’s the 7th Feb so potentially all have been taken or they released very little, unlike BA they don’t guarantee any amount of seats per cabin.

      • idontfly says:

Thanks Alex, there is nothing past the 7th of Jan, I guess it is probably a combination of both of these things.

  • mark2 says:

Just discovered 15% off at Morrison’s on my Halifax current account, my first useful offer on this account. Sadly nothing on Airtime or Virgin.
Am I correct in thinking that I shall not be advised when I use at as with Amex?
How long does it normally take to get the credit?

    • Andrew says:

Allow about 7-14 days, triggered value should appear in the Everyday offers tab.

      • Andrew says:

Oh and payment is at the end of the month following the month you used it. So use it today, it gets credited to your account on or around the 31st April.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

I read elsewhere 15% on Lloyds rewards also.

  • SimonP says:

Hello – my 50%Avios 241 Business returns LHR-LAX in May were cancelled and I am trying to rebook for Sept/Oct. Every date combination I try gives the message that “There is no availability for selected date. Please change your date.” Is there somewhere I can look to check what is happening? RWF tells me that there are Avios seats on certain dates but BA says no to them.

    • Anna says:

People have reported having better luck re-booking via the app. Otherwise you might have to call BA and hope you don’t get an agent who tries to fob you off with some spurious reason why you can’t change your flights!

    • Lady London says:

online it forces you to see only where there is availability.

you need to call BA. BA cancelled your flights so under the law you get to choose a later date convenient to you regardless of whether avios seat is available or not. If they are selling a seat for cash in same cabin as you booked, you have a right to be rebooked “rerouted” into that seat with no change fee and no extra cost.

So just make a separate check online for what they’re selling and request your reroute.

This applies to anyone the airline cancelled a flight on.
Even if bought in a sale (they can’t insist on you still flying on dates that were in the sale), cash, avios, avios upgrade, 241, etc.

No matter how booked, every seat booked on a UK or European airline, flying between any two points anywhere in the world, i
or any non-UK non-European airline’s flight out of UK/Europe, has this right.

Note you get this right for all flights on your ticket as soon as even one flight on the airline is cancelled, has its flight number changed, or is significantly rescheduled.

      • Lady London says:

*online will only show *avios* seat availability if you booked an avios ticket

        • Memesweeper says:

Bizarrely, it’s not that consistent (unless BA have ‘fixed’ it recently). I’ve rebooked four pax on dates with zero Avios availability.

          • Lady London says:

Interesting. MMB is probably restricting online search to specific booking classes.

Remember that BA does not allow members to see all available avios seats. If the person searching is logged in as Gold they will be shown available avios seats Silver and lower won’t. Silver may see seats lower won’t. Your previous status and tier points or lifetime tier points may matter too.

Before @Callum comes along I have tested this alongside a different-status friend (and recently a same-status friend with less history) on their pc and mine physically alongside each other, a few times in recent years and it’s a fact.p

      • Jonathan says:

Re: different awards availability for status then I genuinely think there’s something else at play here.

Did you click all the way through to the booking page as the search tool can be buggy. Sometimes it shows none available in the days either side of your primary date but then when you click on a different day something pops up.

I can 100% guarantee there is no differential availability apart from the V class for golds. If there was it would be widely known & certainly discussed on Flyertalk etc. Next time you think you’ve found it then post dates on here so we can try & work out what’s going on but I promise you it’s a bug in the search not the underlying availability.

        • Memesweeper says:

          I’m not Gold incidentally

        • Lady London says:

Correct @Jonathan. The issue is indeed in the search not the underlying availability.

It’s not a bug. It’s done on purpose. It’s been too easy to reproduce too many times over too long a period. I don’t need the validation of flyertalk as it has never puzzled me. It fits with other things BA also programs for visibility such as some avios seats will only show up searched as a return leg (a recent one I found) and not as an outward or a one-way. I don’t regard this as a bug it’s how they set up records and write code.

According to who’s logged in and their status etc. the system uses a ‘visibility flag’ (SAP terminology) or other mask or tests another field to decide which of the factually present availability it’s going to display.

The underlying availability doesn’t change and I don’t think the search does but the display is selective according to who they know is searching.

This is more than the extra booking class of seats, say, Golds used to have access to.

It was maddening as a Blue to only see avios seats in showing in Business Class and on the worst flight of the day, on a route there’s no point in Business Class on.

At the same time as a Silver might see Business on a better timed flight as well, and perhaps an Economy seat on not the best flight, whereas the experience of a Gold would show even more availability.

Ironic that Blue who you’d think would have fewer miles often seems only to get offered seats costing x times more than an Economy seat and yet others likely to have more miles do see those costing less.

      • SimonP says:

@Lady London – thanks for the advice. BA Avios telephone staff very helpfully rearranged the flights to suit me. It seems that because it was an Avios booking the MMB system did not want to play nice. I appreciate your help and that of everyone else who has given it.

  • PK says:

Please could someone confirm if Amex PRG bonus of 10k MR points on £15k spend, is an annual bonus or just for first year.
    Thanks.

    • Anna says:

It’s annual, but holding on to the card for the 2nd year and paying the £140 fee doesn’t make a huge amount of sense.

  • Peter K says:

Mrs K applied for the Virgin 15k points for the bank switch via the Virgin red website.
She got the wine offer code, not the points. Has anyway managed to get it changed by live chat or is it a phone call matter? TIA.

    • Lady London says:

lots of people have had to sort Virgin out on this and I think @BJ managed it

      • Peter K says:

Thanks LL. I know at least once person managed it as I trawled through many pages of comments on the chat pages etc 🙂 but wondered if I had to actually call to sort it?

        • Lady London says:

I think people said they live chatted.

          • Peter K says:

Thank you. I did try calling but their number to “contact us any time day or night” is closed as it’s out of hours 🙄

    • Ghosty says:

I called and had to explain their own T&C’s verbatim to them about Appling via the app or website, they then said I applied from the money website which only mentions the wine offer. As I don’t drink wine I said it was impossible I claimed from that page/site. They said they will cancel the wine and send me a promo code for the miles. Received email confirmation that they will and may take a few days. That was Thursday last week and no code yet, but hopeful it will arrive.

    • Chrisasaurus says:

On this subject, by Midnight 15th do they mean tomorrow (Monday) night?
