We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

hi folks, looking for some advice about Llyods upgrade voucher bookings. Have bookings LHR-JNB (23/5) and JNB-LHR (3/6) Bus Class through Avios and have paid for reserved seating separately. Both Vouchers will be expired at this stage. On checking this morning the booking from LHR has disappeared from my account (does that mean cancelled?) and the JNB flight has been cancelled (and we have been booked on the later flight.). My question is whether it is possible to get Avios to request a FTV from BA rather than a refund with Llyods voucher extended to Oct 21. Looking to extend the voucher as far as possible. Have sent an email to Avios Customer Services asking this question so looking for any advice as to whether worth expending any energy on this.

TomM: I had a booking using a Lloyds upgrade voucher for flights in January 2021. Voucher expiry date now past. I deliberately waited to cancel to keep the voucher a live in the original booking. In early January I called Avios.com to cancel, as my flights were still operating. I received a full refund of both cash to my credit card and Avios. I was told I could reuse the expired Lloyds upgrade voucher as long as I booked by end of March 2021. In February I called Avios.com to rebook without any issues. I don’t think BA’s FTV scheme can be applied because Avios.com bookings are more like a travel agent in that you have to go through Avios.com not BA direct.
When you say your booking has disappeared from your account is that your BA.com / Executive Club account? There is a recurring issue that Executive club doesn’t always show the current bookings. That does not imply the booking status has changed in anyway. The work around is to manually type in the PNR (five character BA reference) to view the booking.

Just received an invitation to join the NS&I research panel. They want to know what I’m doing with their accounts! Rolls on floor laughing.

    Hi all,

What’s latest situation regarding curve and virgin atlantic? Is it worth me going to curve metal now if I want to start using it for ernie?

I dont want to commit to £15 per month for 1 year + only to be unable to take advantage.

    Thanks!

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Virgin worked fine for me yesterday with a free curve card. I had got the “invalid card” error earlier in the week so problem is clearly fixed (for me anyway)

    • Travel Strong says:

Why would you need curve metal for that? (Blue is fine)

    • memesweeper says:

I’d be looking for a more legit/sustainable use of metal before dropping the fee, like HMRC. You may feel the risk is worth it.

  • Fola says:

    Hi everyone,

Sorry I have to questions in one chat.
I am planning to upgrade to Curve metal 12 months plan. Does anyone know if I will get a refund I downgrade after 6 months( if a downgrade is within six months, there is a £50 CHARGE)?

I have just opened the Virgin Current account. Initially, in the first few days of the account opening, I could complete the switching process within the app but now I can’t seem to see that option once I log into the account. I called customer service but the adviser didn’t seem to know how to go about it. Has anyone experienced the same? When I tried the switching service here
https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx I couldn’t figure out what to do

    • Sam says:

      Can’t help you with curve

For Virgin, my instructions for a joint account was to switch on the phone. Took 10 mins

  • Ana says:

Hello! I just got my gold card and I have 2 questions:

    1) it says I’ll get 20k points if I spend 3k in 3 months. From when does the 3 months period start counting? Is it from the time I activated?

    2. It also says 10k additional points for 10k spend in the first year. Is there anything similar to this second one applicable in platinum cards?

    • Dan says:

      1. It should be from the date you took out the card/approved.
      2. You need 15k of spend, and No.

    • Chris Heyes says:

Ana Note its 10k points for 15k spend in first year, but you won’t receive the 10k points until “After” first year (prob 4/6 weeks after your card year end)
So don’t cancel until points post, you will get a pro-ratio refund

  • Andrew says:

7% at Harrods just been added to Airtime.

Should stack with the usual BA and Virgin points offers.

  • Vit says:

Sorry if this has been discussed already. C@sh3ack from beardy card:

Earn 10% on purchases of £30+ at Morrisons, otherwise earn 1%. Conditions and exclusions apply. Enjoy this offer from 11/03/2021 to 24/03/2021.

Anyone has tried getting the giftcards. I am at my last £250 now and no Morrisons offers on my amex as well. So would like to go in wit this for some giftcards.

    Cheers,
    Vit

    • Sina says:

Yes it works, and it stacks with Airtime rewards: 10%, Virgin shopping portal: 8points/£, and 10% on Perks at Work if you have it through your employer?!

      • Vit says:

Thanks Sina. Good to hear. I do have P@W but never actually looking at utilising them much. Will do a bit of research. 🙂

        • Sina says:

You have to register your card for in-store offers, and after 24 hours it will track your purchases in Morrisons!

          • Vit says:

Ah yes, I did register mine a while back and had received some VS points already. Had not done so for airtime though.

      • Anuj says:

Have you actually received both airtime and virgin points on the same purchase? I thought the system behind all the various card based cash backs only lets one website be approved

        • Sina says:

I’ve tried with other retailers and it works, I’ve bout £1.2k waitrose & Morrisons gift cards tonight, will report if it tracks! 👌🏼
