We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Lee says:

Just booked 3 CW tickets to Male for Oct half term, no availability for return so have to do an open jaw from Doha.
    Hope things are better then.

    • Aston100 says:

Does that mean you’ll get 5 nights at the most?
If so, does that seem worth it to you?

      • Benilyn says:

I’ve done 6 nights and 5 nights in the ‘dives – found that ok tbh – especially if you land early and leave late. Obviously would love more ha!

        • Ali M says:

yeah found this in the only trip I have to Male – stupidly booked such that reached the resort at 1800 and had to leave 5 days later at 0600… A full day lost really and if one equates it to the per night cost…

      • Lee says:

Booked 7 nights seems just enough

        • Tracey says:

Went for 10 nights recently and that seemed a touch too long.actually probably just the right length as we knew we were ready to come home on day 9.
Sri Lanka also fly direct if no BA availability.

  • Phil says:

Ernie>Bendy>Solihull just worked for me with no hitches. I have an original Curve Black BETA Commercial.

    • pigeon says:

The worry is, of course, that one day your account gets frozen for a money-laundering investigation, and it takes months to iron things out?

      • Phil says:

But I’m not actually doing MS. I’m genuinely investing in PBs. I can easily show the source of funds and where the money has gone. I invest relatively modest sums in comparison to my day-to-day spending on Bendy and Solihull.

        • mark2 says:

My bendy has been frozen for a month now after I bought some Premium Bonds (to keep) and send them the statement showing an NS&I bond maturing to provide the funds.

  • Michael C says:

In brighter news, direct IOM-Sønderborg flights to start in May ’22!!

    • E says:

Looks like it’s one flight in each direction and that’s all…19th to 22nd May?

    • Garry says:

This should reduce the £210 rip off test but surely not by 6% as reported. Simple maths says £105 for one PCR test on day 8?

      • Andy says:

The test on arrival replaces the day 2 test, you still need to do the day 8 test. Collinson offers the PCR test at 99£, so 2 tests would cost you 198£ hence the 6% saving

        • Colin MacKinnon says:

Does it replace the Day Two test because you’ll have ti queue for 48 hrs to get it?

        • meta says:

But you also save some money not having to do an extra one before you leave from wherever you are.

Looks like that cheap lateral flow test that you take with you won’t be necessary…

        • Garry says:

Sorry to be daft, a £210 package contains two days worth of tests (day 2 and day 8)
If you dont need to use that £210 package for day 2 but can use your day zero test to replace it, then a day 8 test should be cheaper (50% the price) not 6% less?

          • roberto says:

But , do you still need a PCR test to fly back? I understand the on arrival day 0 replaces the day 2 test but it does not say if you need one to get on the plane to fly back to the UK first..

          • Lady London says:

            @Gary not in UK-land

    • Lady London says:

      And still a ripoff price.

Can’t blame Collinson for getting in there like a rat up a drainpipe though as they’re already committed in UK airports and not making any money.

The ripoff continues though and the government should fix these test costs at around £50 which is the going rate allowing providers profit in other countries.

Seems there’s just too many snouts in the trough in UK – the test provider, Collinson, airport, any government adviser and friends…. still £100-£110 per test and forcing a minimum of 2x that for every traveller…. is a perfect example of ripoff UK.

  • Menac says:

Can anyone shed light on why I can’t get ba to price lon-yyz on reward flight saver even though the symbol appears. I can get it priced for any other route.

  • Soo says:

Our 241 50% booking LHR-SIN has been cancelled, and since it’s unlikely we’ll be going there soon, we are looking to use the 241 for FCO instead in Dec21.
Since it’s not within 300miles, and much less avios/taxes needed, can I call up to change destination, with excess avios/taxes refunded?
If instead it has to be a FTV, does that preserve the 50%?
    Thanks for any advice/suggestion.

    • Anna says:

FTV is for what you paid, you would have to pay the full avios price on a re-booking.
I asked for a refund online recently and the avios and 241 appeared pretty much immediately (though still waiting for the cash), so you could probably just request the refund and rebook if you don’t want to call BA.
The only way to preserve the 50% avios original deal is to get your flights moved rather than a refunded/FTV.

      • Simon P says:

Anna, I am guessing my options are the same for a Business LHR-LAX 50% Avios 241 deal on 14th May which has just been cancelled. I am offered a later flight the same day but can’t fly then anyway, and hope to go in October. As I understand it I can cancel and get Avios and fees refunded (and the 241) but with an FTV I may have to top up the Avios price. If I move flights to October, I preserve the 50% deal if I read you right. Thanks, S.

        • Andy says:

Assuming BA lets you reschedule to October. I recall some on here were only offered rebooking around their travel date. You might have some luck doing it via MMB

          • Anna says:

If it’s cancelled you’re entitled to move it to another date that’s convenient to you, regardless of what BA says!

        • Anna says:

With a FTV you would definitely have to pay the extra avios. If you call BA they will probably cite their 365 day policy for ticket changes, but it’s been reported (including today) that people have got round this by making changes online or through the app.

          • Simon P says:

Anna – total star! thank you

          • Simon P says:

Hi Anna (again) – if I manage to rebook LHR-LAX for October, and the US is still not open for tourists, am I still in a position to cancel with BA relatively easily and financially (and Aviosly) painlessly?

      • Soo says:

        Thanks Anna, will call them.

  • Hotelier says:

Didn’t get the 10%off Morrison’s via Amex but can do Natwest +Airtime for a nice 14%. Questions is: Can I buy the Amazon Cards directly or need to do via Morrison’s own GC. Both available at my local shop atm.

    • Benilyn says:

      Can buy them directly

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I just checked my Natwest and I have 10% in rewards at Morrisons Click and Collect until 24/3. So am I right in assuming that this isn’t going to work if I simply go and use my card instore? Thanks in advance.

      • Ryan says:

I asked previously, I think it’s too easy to tell chop and pin vs online transaction.. so no

  • Tim says:

OptionTown’s flight pass is being withdrawn it seems (some getting emails about it from BA). Anyone got any alternatives?
