We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Have you seen that Hilton Grand Vacation is going to buy Diamond Resorts?

    • Doug M says:

That maybe disappointing. I like a couple of places in LBV that are Diamond Resorts. Their resort charge less unacceptable than HGV, as are overall charges. Other slight surprise with this based in my go to two options is that they’re without bars and restaurants, so less resort than my experience of HGV.

  • James says:

Morrisons 10% off deal – can I buy Apple vouchers at Morrisons to use to purchase an Apple Watch?

    • Rob says:

      Yes, if they sell them

      • Ali M says:

ow – reading the blog is always helpful.
I know they do Amazon as well so by extension should work for anything really.
        Thanks Rob

      • KBuffett says:

Apple do not sell vouchers via other retailers that can be used on hardware. The only vouchers sold at other retailers are iTunes vouchers.

    • Nigel says:

Otherwise but John Lewis vouchers and buy a watch via them?

    • Tom1 says:

Morrison’s sell John Lewis and also curry’s.

I find the curry’s price promise very good – they match a competitor’s price – by way of a one-time discount code BEFORE you buy.

So if you can find an Apple Watch cheaper elsewhere, go on curry’s price promise page, and wait for them to confirm the match, and give you the discount code. It’s valid for 2 days (I think) so when you have it, go to Morrison’s to buy your curry’s voucher.

Then don’t forget to use BA/virgin or other shopping portal for another few % off.

  • Lula says:

Not necessarily travel related, and realise that there’s likely no way of knowing, but what do people reckon chances are of all restrictions being lifted on 21 June? We postponed our wedding party from last year, and it’s in for 3 July. Need to decide quite soon whether to press ahead or rethink, and interested in views/speculation!

    • Stanley says:

GO FOR IT !!! Even today the case and death numbers are collapsing. Add to that another 30 million jabs, and summer weather – What rationale could there be for continued restrictions come July……

      • Lula says:

Thank you! Yes, that’s what I’m thinking too. Thing is (and this is just me being silly and superstitious) we were incredibly lucky last year, as our wedding date was 4 July. We held out and held out in the hope that restrictions would be lifted. Then they were, just in time, and we managed to get married (small and socially distanced, obviously). Arranging the wedding with only 3 days to go (after confirmation from the venue and registrar that they could do it) was quite a feat. So somewhere in the back of my mind, a little voice is telling me that I couldn’t be so lucky twice!

        • Stanley says:

May you remain lucky then…. If everyone at the party has been jabbed, what can possibly stop you earning the biggest hangover of your life ??

        • Lady London says:

Congratulations and wish you all the best. I have a funny feeling it will work out OK for you on that date again.

And very pleased to see @Polly mentioned having a son in law so presumably at least one delayed wedding went ahead for @Polly family too?

    • Aston100 says:

I reckon there is every chance of some restrictions remaining or being (re)introduced depending on how the masses conduct themselves when let off the leash in April and May.

      • Lula says:

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m worried about. So hard to plan and make decisions at the moment.

    • Ghosty says:

My Daughter postponed her wedding from July last year to this July this year, and has now postponed it again until July 2022.
My other daughter was due to be married in Vegas, August last year, changed to April this year. Now hoping for August later this year.

    • Chris Heyes says:

Lula OOOooo how many times as it been said ” interested in views/speculation!”
Some will say what you want to hear, some will say what you don’t want to hear
Sorry but that’s how it is The problem is no-one can give you a correct answer
or more to the point them that guess correct will be right, the rest will keep quiet

      • Lula says:

Well it’s not really a case of wanting a particular answer, as we haven’t committed financially, and can just move it. Was more about speculation and reasoning behind it so that I can take it into account in decision making. I’m well aware that no one can give me a correct answer, and said as much in my original post.

  • HeadingForNoPoints says:

14% off at Morrisons (Airtime rewards 7% + Natwest rewards 7%) is back it seems

Similar offer in November last year but it was 20% (10% + 10%) airtime cash back was payable early march for a transaction in early November so 3 months if you’re willing to wait) I stocked up over £2500 amazon cards at 20% off.

Got a code for airtime rewards if anyone is fussed: NWM87QEG

    • TGLoyalty says:

Some have 10% on airtime. I received 7%

      • HeadingForNoPoints says:

Correct, seems like new accounts get 10% or haven’t used the offer before

    • Andrew says:

It’s a potential Triple Dip for Me!

Beloved NHS Staff – 10% Discount
PAW (Visa or Mastercard) – 10% Back
      Airtime – 10% Back

      • Ali M says:

        whats PAW

      • Aston100 says:

Andrew, I am unable to use the teacher discount when doing an online shop for home delivery. I presume this also applies to your NHS discount too?

        • Andrew says:

They send me fresh codes every week.

I’ve never been quick enough to get a delivery slot though.

    • Ryan says:

10% Morrisons for me, but only on Click & Collect….? Do they / can they differentiate between instore and Click & Collect?

      • The real John says:

Yes, pretty easy to differentiate between a chip&PIN transaction vs online

        • Ryan says:

Exactly what I thought, double dip Virgin & AR it is!

          • Blair says:

Virgin offer not applicable on gift card purchases so needs to be groceries to apply

          • Ryan says:

They all say no GC’s… there’s no way they can tell though

    • CH says:

      Used your code, @HeadingForNoPoints – enjoy 🙂

  • mutley says:

Is anyone out there Barclays Premier customer and tried to join the new Avios scheme? It’s like pulling teeth, the IT is nowhere up to speed, in addition a lot of the staff seem to have little knowledge of the new scheme.

    • Lula says:

Oh, that’s odd. I did, and it went through in a matter of moments via the app.

    • toomanylogins says:

I did it yesterday and had issues both with creating my account and signing up to Avios rewards. It did all work out, but required some patience. I’m hoping their IT was just having a bad day.
I requested an account switch today so let’s see how that goes!

  • Karl says:

On the supermarket topic, just had an email from Tesco offering Clubcard Plus free for 6 months. Not sure if it’s related to me not going in since Sainsbury’s have been doing Avios?

    • BuildBackBetter says:

Only if you sign up for a mobile monthly plan

      • Karl says:

Oh yeah, didn’t get that far! To be honest I probably still wouldn’t have bothered as at the moment I’ll be getting the big shop in Mozzas (10% NHS + 7% Virgin) and little things in Sainsbury’s to maximise Nectar

  • DT says:

@meta, thank you for your advice last week regarding rebooking cancelled redemption flights via the app.

Just received my cancellation today and it wouldn’t change on the website, gave me the 365 day error.

Tried on the app and went straight through, rebooked for November this year, way beyond the one year from initial ticketing date.

    • Anna says:

That’s good to know – did you change the destination or just the date?

      • meta says:

        Good to know.

@Anna you can’t change the destination without a call.

        • Anna says:

Thanks – if our MIA flights for August get cancelled I would be happy to move them to a later date as it’s a good hub for the Caribbean or other US destinations.

          • DT says:

If you call I believe you can change your destination to within 300 miles of the originally booked airport.

This was the second cancellation I had for this booking, it was initially for Kuala Lumpur and when they cancelled this a few months ago, I called up to move the destination to Singapore. Though at the time when I asked if I could change the date to November they said it can’t be moved more than a year beyond my initial booking date which was in August 2020.

This is why I preferred to be able to rebook the dates for this second cancellation without calling, wouldn’t need to try and push for reticketing to go beyond 365 days of original booking.

    • andy says:

Do you need redemption seats to be available to do this or can you change it to a date even with no avios seats available?

      • DT says:

I was able to change to any flight without needing redemption seating as it was a forced cancellation by BA instead of me wanting to cancel

    • RT says:

Interesting, which app is this? Android or Apple?

      • RT says:

Ah it’s Apple. I’ve seen another post of yours now so no need to answer. My Android version looks like a wrapper for the web version. Might have to borrow an iphone 🙂

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Paid hmrc and brighton today using personal bendy creatively. No issues. Dont understand all the noise.
