We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • James says:

Bonus points from the nectar transfer promotion have hit my BAEC account. You’re welcome 😀

    • BJ says:

Same, but interestingly the 500 bonus only posted to the first of multiple BAEC account receiving transfers from a single Nectar account. This was the rules but I wasn’t sure they would be able to track that but it’s now obvious that they can.

    • C says:

I didn’t have enough points in my nectar initially so did a transfer from BA the day before the promotion started then transferred back again the following day. Haven’t received the bonus (yet, but this was always optimistic though in line with the literal wording of the Ts&Cs). Hubby who did have enough points initially has received them

    • Andrew says:

Nothing in my account yet. But I was new to Nectar, transferring in on that Sunday and then out again on the Monday so maybe they twigged after all.

    • ChrisC says:

      Yep mine as well

Transaction dated 9th March and Posted 11th March,

BAs IT hamsters have been working very hard the last couple of days processing this and the status changes.

    • AJA says:

Yes. It credited overnight for me. Thanks for the heads up. An easy 500 Avios earned.

@BJ I think it’s BA that does the checking. Don’t forget BA and Nectar share all details between them so if you unlinked the first BAEC account to then link a second one to the same Nectar account that info would be shared. BAEC and Nectar would also know that a Nectar account had been previously linked to an account so a second BAEC account linked to the same Nectar card account would show up. Remember you can only link and unlink 4 times a year so they must be tracking this. Besides each transfer of NP to Avios shows up in the first account and you must also have multiple transfers going from the same Nectar account. Easy to see which BAEC account had the first transfer so due the bonus.

    • BJ says:

@AJA, yes, how I see it too except I didn’t think either of them were up to getting their systems sorted in time to track and distinguish the rules. Obvious now that they were so I’m (un)pleasantly surprised. Just did it with the one extra account to test this.

    • Doc says:

500 points posted but any idea about the supposedly double nectar points associated with this?

    • Stagger Lee says:

Cheers, Just checked and mine has posted today. Nice

  • Liam says:

I live in the US now but, following a death in the family, I am considering my options for returning to the UK for the funeral and to support my parents. While I am aware of the quarantine rules, what I can’t tell is whether going to Heathrow to leave the country is an acceptable “breach” of quarantine. I don’t really want to be around for 10 days. Is there a definitive view on this? Thanks in advance.

    • Lord Doncaster says:

How can you quarantine and attend a funeral?

    • Lady London says:

you’re fine to leave to go home if your home is elsewhere. you dont have to stay a requisite number of days. Just ensure you have documentation proving your stay is essential and also observe any quarantine reqts including Boris’s £210 ripoff for prepaid PCR tests

    • Andrew says:

Which part of the UK are you visiting?

  • BJ says:

Amex offers: 10% on £30+ spend at Morrisons is back.

    • Lee says:

Shame that no more Virgin or Airtime stacking

      • BJ says:

We can hope, I’m finally into my last £100 of the £2000 I took on the double dip early last year

      • Kai says:

6 Virgin points / £1 on my account

      • Andrew says:

The targetted PAW offer at Mozza’s comes and goes.

10% Card Linked Perks on Visa and Mastercard runs for me until the 24th March too.

      • Nigel W says:

Got notification that you can get 7% on Airtime Rewards for £30+ spending at Morrisons just now.

    • Ste Cox says:

      which card?

      • BJ says:

My partner’s BAPP. I think they only put it on cards that have not been used at supermarkets for a while, or at least Morrisons.

        • Andrew says:

It’s on my Plat and BAPP cards and supps, use most of them at supermarkets, although never stepped foot inside a Morrison’s

          • Ste Cox says:

Thanks, I had it on my free BA card but not my Platinum, went on the app chat and got them to load it onto my Plat. 🙂

          • Andrew MS says:

I have 7% off a £30+ spend at Morrison’s on my free Amex rewards credit card

    • Jonathan says:

Tried to convert my last few Morrison’s vouchers to JL/Waitrose or Amazon last week & my usual store only had a rubbish selection. I know there were issues with the Amazon GC’s a few months ago, have they ever made a reappearance?

      • BJ says:

I had no problem with an amazon one about 2-3 weeks ago.

        • Chas says:

Jonathan / BJ – by “convert”, do you mean using your Morrison’s vouchers to pay for JL or Amazon vouchers? That is what I am hoping to do, as when I took advantage on the last day of the previous offer, there was a slim selection of other gift cards. Any tips on doing this – do the manned tills work, or only self-service, and is there a maximum value to do in one go? TIA

          • Doug M says:

I did it because M’s own vouchers go up to £250, so was easier to do when the previous offer was use once, and not like the current every time one. It also allows you to defer the decision between say JLP and Amazon. I always now use the self checkout, and use the choc bars at the check out to fool the scale as the gift cards not heavy enough to register.

          • Chas says:

Excellent – thanks Doug. Good to know that route works.

          • BJ says:

In addition to comments from Doug, their own cards can also be used to pay for fuel.

          • Chas says:

            Cheers BJ

    • RussellH says:

I have different offers on my two Amex.

BA Amex is 10% of £30, limited to 11 000 people.
Rewards Amex is much more exclusive, limited to just 2 000 people. But not as much use – only 7% off

    • @mkcol says:

Don’t forget the 10% Blue Light Card discount until the end of this month.

    • PJJ says:

1% base reward, 10% on all purchases over £30 on Airtime Rewards today

    • Magic Mike says:

I have 10% back on my Plat Credit Card, and 7% back on my Marriott Amex!

  • Dani says:

    New Amex Promos

Uber Eats 10% and our Fave.. Morrison’s 7 to 10%!!

    • SwissJim says:

Does Morrison’s work on purchase of gift cards? Though not been in a Morrison’s for over a year so no idea what they sell.

      • Polly says:

Yes it does. Handy to stock up on John Lewis etc… sometimes they remove the Amazon cards when they promote their 10% off deals. But yes GCs work. Some on here buy a few £250 Morrisons GCs to use the following few months etc petrol, other GCs, everything can be bought with their own GCs.

        • SwissJim says:

          Excellent. Thank you.

          • BJ says:

We can hope, I’m finally into my last £100 of the £2000 I took on the double dip early last yearyou can use their own cards for fuel too.

          • BJ says:

@Rob, reply button and duplicate posts playing up for me this morning. Half that reply was meant to be @Lee and half @SwissJim

          • Joe says:

Although gift cards expressly excluded in the Ts & Cs?

          • mark2 says:

            Yes

        • Dani says:

Don’t forget to scan rewards card on giftcard purchases and again when redeeming them…

And double dip with my NHS discount on good.. Cher ching..

          • Harry T says:

Sadly NHS discount doesn’t work for gift cards or this would be the promised land for sure!

    • Andrew says:

Morrison’s 10% offer says “every time” – so presumably can be used multiple times.

      • Polly says:

Yep. We have only just used our final £250 card from their pre Xmas deal, this week. So good timing. Double dipped each time for their points. Even tho it takes an age to earn their fivers!

        • Polly says:

And 10,000 Virgin miles dropped into my account, nice surprise, as had linked that card on FC site. Only just started to collect FC miles too.

        • Freddy says:

Don’t think I can face buying gift cards at Morrisons after the palava I had when they sold me unactivated Amazon gift cards and refused to deal until I contacted head office

    • Jonathan says:

Hmmm…. looks like my AmEx Platinum has hit the offers brick wall. 35+ available yesterday & zero today. Can’t be bothered to go round in circles with their CS script so may finally push me to pull the plug. I’ve not had any missed payments/payment holidays/self referrals before anyone asks.

      • Andy says:

I had a weird glitch on the app just now where I had lots of offers on my Amex Plat with four offers saved. I then saved the Uber eats offer and all the other 35 offers disappeared! I refreshed and it was the same.

Closed the app and logged back in and they were back so worth checking again.

        • Suck My Points says:

Same. Zero offers showing until I refreshed the page, then suddenly 40 (useless) offers.

Keeps appearing and disappearing. Hit refresh / relaunch the app.

  • BJ says:

OT @Lady London and others. Thanks for comments on M&M giftcards yesterday. Unfortunately I still cannot make the order work. Cadooz takes the order from both my app and the website but never fulfills it and the miles never leave my account. Furthermore, I cannot log into my M&M account on the website but can on the app. When I try to log in at the website it just asks me to contact customer services but when I try to do that it want me to sign in so I’m trapped in a circle. Anybody know what is going on, or have a contact number or email for M&M as opposed to LH.

    • Lady London says:

tried to get you the link on Miles-and-more.com but it’s not copying on my phone. It’s under Help and Contact + choose Phone in the box at the bottom.

if you phone they can be super-helpful. Let’s hope LH is not blocking outward redemptions to save cash.

Your account address for M&M account has to be changed ahead of ordering as they will only ship anything physical to that address. They charge a chunky number of points for shipping but till Brexit at least would happily ship to that address UK/EU same flat rate. If need be you can change the account addess back to your longterm one after you placed the order.

      • BJ says:

Thanks, the route you mention via help and support is the one I took to no avail. I will try changing the address on the app as I cannot log in on the website which in itself seems weird and makes me think there is a restriction on my account. I had the same problem prepandemic and Brexit so do not think it’s that. What number to you call them on, I cannot find one?

        • Lady London says:

I deleted my Miles & More folder in a wicca celebration ceremony after dumping my membership :-). Otherwise I’d have handed the number straight to you @BJ !

I’ve searched some other files and found a German number going back to 2013. I’ve tested it – could use Skype – and got a machine answer offering option 2 for English. Hopefully a human will answer you in office hours +4969 209 777 777.

Are you also using the stamp thing to limit things @BJ ? I gather it’s an option some are using that gets around some problems introduced in recent years

          • BJ says:

😀 thanks. I’ve tried everything with no joy and I’m baffled! Cannot believe it is so hard even to find a number for them so I’m grateful for the one you provided, I’ll give it a shot.

  • Ilou says:

Quick question.. is it possible to use curve/Virgin underlying with Bristol ?

  • KS says:

Noticed a new Amex personal plat targeted referral offer:
    18k points for me
    50k points for others

Should be easy to convince a few friends now. 🙂

    • Andrew says:

And you’ll get that 18k even if they take the gold card.

      • anna says:

Can a person who holds Amex Gold refer you for Amex Platnium??

        • mark2 says:

          yes

        • Andrew says:

The link you send them will be for the card you hold, but they can go to the bottom of the page where it says ‘other cards’ and select the one they want from there and you’ll get the bonus based on the card you hold, not the card they take. I believe this only works within the same earning ‘currency’ ie if you have a MR earning card, you can’t get a bonus on someone taking a BA card – but I might be wrong.

          • KS says:

T&Cs state that you get referral bonus as long as they apply successfully for any card other than Basic Card.

  • AndyW says:

Received my email for 15k virgin points for current account switch. Have to say this one was very painless, for me at least.

    • Tim J says:

Interesting. I opened the account via a switch about 10 days ago and set up 2 direct debits. The switch transferred just over £1000 so I thought I met the criterai. Only on reading the the chat properly last night did I realise that the £1000 needs to be in the linked savings account so I quickly transferred it on the app. I am hopeful that I will get the bonus and that I haven’t missed anything else

      • @mkcol says:

Glad you wrote this & I read it as I’d not noticed that I had to bung a grand into the savings account!
