The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 10th March

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Can confirm Curve is working again

  • DT says:

Can’t wait for everyone to confirm using Curve for MS works again, while ironically using a plethora of code words to keep it on the down low

    • Red Flyer says:

My goose laid the egg first time but second attempt was crispy duck sadly. 😢

      • Chrisasaurus says:

Ffs now switching cards doesn’t work – it’s trying to charge my IHG no matter which underlying card I have selected in the app!

      • kitten says:

you mean you got roasted? or just fried ?

  • Paul says:

Thanks JH, just had 2 curve transactions work topping up nsi backed with hsbc and ihg.

    • Harrier25 says:

I think we can guess the main topic of conversation on here tomorrow…..ernie and bendy are working in harmony again. Great, I can’t wait 🙄

      • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

I’m sure it’s in everyone’s interest to not have topic mentioned again?

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

I have a the latest high-tech bit of kit for this. It’s a mouse with a little wheel on top that’s great for scrolling – I can go straight past comments that aren’t relevant to me personally without getting annoyed. You should really try one. So happy they brought this out. Isn’t 1996 brilliant!!

        • Chrisasaurus says:

I mean, I am actually fully in agreement with you but – there’s a certain irony in stopping to reply to that and not having scrolled by!

        • Harrier25 says:

God, you still using a mouse?!! Old hat, mate!

      • Ashish says:

Where else can we do hsbc and even hilton one for friend?

  • DAJ says:

Well how frustrating!! I’ve just tried to book my first flight in many months and feeling somewhat uplifted thinking that this is the first step to getting back to some normality, I have been brutally let down by the computer saying no!

I have tried twice to book flights applying a FTV and the system gets to the last booking page and on clicking the make reservation button states unable to process booking.

Very frustrating but wanted to know if this is a common issue when applying vouchers (correctly applied balances etc.) or is it just my bad luck?!!

    • BlueHorizonUK says:

If it’s a FTV then can only be done over the phone.

If they sent you a eVoucher than it can be used online.

  • ZB says:

Data point. Opened virgin money account two weeks ago, transfered £1000 and two direct debit, and switched from Starling last Friday. Received the 15000 virgin miles voucher from virgin red today. All was pretty smooth.

    • Benilyn says:

Did you open on the website or app

      • Track says:

The thing is, when you start in Virgin Red app, it actually opens a browser page (on mobile).

    • Harley says:

Does anyone know if you will be entitled to the signup bonus if you had some regular savings accounts ( not current account) with them last year? Cant find it anywhere on the terms

  • Secret Squirrel says:

Just deleted & uploaded the curve app to see if that sorts out the issues but the magic link to email or sms code never comes through?

    • Rob says:

The SMS has nothing to do with the app, it is just sent to your code like a normal SMS.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

This is the code needed to verify your account when you upload the app?
It isn’t coming through & not to the registered email address?

        • Secret Squirrel says:

If I also request the magic link to my email address?

          • Fm says:

This has been happening to me for ages, no SMS despite multiple attempts. Curve customer services offered to call, but never did so at the time I asked them to (usually whilst I was at work), eventually I just gave up

  • david says:

Don’t know if this has ever been talked about before but with Natwest rewards £100 buys you 11740 Avios – certainly cheaper than buying them.

    • Andrew says:

But not a good ROI. Better to spend the cash on a flight.

      • stevenhp1987 says:

That really depends on your flight.

At 0.85p per Avios most people would be happy and able to get more value than that.

    • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

Great spot David, thank you , I’ll have some of that

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

Nice to have the option although not a buyer personally. It’s allegedly temporary although it’s been round for ages.

  • Ilou says:

I have been away from the MS game for some time.. is it still possible to use curve with Bristol ?
