We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know if Halifax allows mortgage repayments through Bendy without any charges?
    Thanks.

    • Andrew says:

From memory, if you are a bad debt or in arrears their recovery team do.

    • Genghis says:

      Overpayments, yes.

      • Tyler Durden says:

both if you cancel your direct debt Genghis…

        • Genghis says:

          Thanks.

Needs to be done over the phone and can be a bit of a faff, especially if every month. Is it worth the effort?

          • 747_Brat says:

            @Genghis
With the M&M card closing next month, I want to use WE card as the underlying card for the overpayments. Would it land me in some sort of trouble with Hong Kong if I do this? Do you have any experience in making overpayments with WE card as the underlying card?
            Thanks.

    • 747_Brat says:

      Thanks everyone for your replies.

Sorry I wasn’t clear, but I meant overpayments (not repayments)! But do I really need to cancel my monthly DD for that?

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

        No it’ll be fine.

The point was about doing repayments via bendy, not over payments

        • 747_Brat says:

          Cheers thanks @SSS

          • Benilyn says:

@747_Brat – not sure about Halifax in particular, but in general the Premier card (free one) is super lax, so assume WE will be as well….

          • 747_Brat says:

            Cheers thanks @ Benilyn

The VA free credit card vouchers Q.
It states Red status members can upgrade, does this just cover the named person on the card or all parties on the one booking ie: Me & Partner can say book PE using points then upgrade to UC for free?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

You can upgrade yourself both ways or 2 people one way.

Reward availability must exist in the upgraded class.

      • Alex says:

You can combine vouchers also, so book PE and use two vouchers to upgrade two people for a return trip to upper.

        • Tyler Durden says:

Short answer is yes if your already in PE you can upgrade to Upper for “free” (++virgin/gov taxes) **Upgrade vouchers can now be used in conjunction with a ticket in any booking class, for a one cabin upgrade for a return flight (excludes original bookings made in Economy Light).

          • Secret Squirrel says:

            Thanks all.
Is there an easy way to look up when your VA card vouchers started rather than having to download every months statement and trawl through them?

          • Alex says:

Unfortunately not – I used the WhatsApp service and they told me the dates they expire within about 20 mins of me sending the initial message

  • Andrew says:

Data point on Virgin status extension: my status which was matched to gold has been given the 3 month extension, so now shows end of May 22 which is helpful as I was a bit peeved that they changed the terms after I had applied allowing you to start the upgrade the month you fly, so feel a bit happier that I might stand a fighting chance to use the benefits a couple of times before it expires.

    • Tyler Durden says:

i went for the original status match (12+ months from Feb.), but Virgin agreed to swap to the “enhanced” status match which means status starts from when i take my first flight (September 21) – that said i havent lost the status i was given and my expiry is actually April 2022… but hopefully virgin will honor the email saying the extension starts from first flight.

    New travel regulation for England:

    Travel declaration form
From 8 March 2021, you must complete this form to declare the reason that you need to travel abroad.

You must complete this form if you are travelling outside the UK from England. Different rules apply for international travel from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

You don’t need to complete the form for travel within the UK, to Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

You should print a copy of the completed form or save it to a mobile phone or other device.

You may be asked to show this declaration form at the port of departure. You may carry evidence to support your reason for travel.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-declaration-form-for-international-travel

    • Andrew says:

So a Scottish (or Welsh) resident doesn’t have to fill one in to depart from an English port or airport?

  • estrangeiro8 says:

O/T: I just spoke to the Lloyds Avios team as I have a couple of vouchers that were going to expire this month. They’ve extended both of them to 31 October now.

    • AndyGWP says:

Can’t thank you enough! I hadn’t realise the (already extended) voucher expired today, but just managed to get an extension to 31st October too 🙂 appreciated!

      • aDifferentSimon says:

        Did these not auto extend?

        • AndyGWP says:

BA Amex ones auto extend. Not sure about Lloyds tho? I didn’t think they did

          • aDifferentSimon says:

rats, I think I’ve lost one then. I’ll call and find out.

    • johnny_c-l says:

Thanks for the update, I have a cancelled Lloyds flight later this month I have been waiting for another extension on before ringing again.

    • Matt says:

Many thanks for this information. I’m in the same situation so will give them a call.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

I just got that same email but the exclusions are confusing. It’s states accident only, when I opted for that at the policy overview you had to tick boxes which included a statement that accident only did not include extra, premier or standard cover which is what’s required for the points?

    • BJ says:

Thanks, off to check another place 🙂

      • BJ says:

Double dips have been enhanced but every
        little helps.

        • Mouse says:

I appreciate the answer might be a flat no, but would you be able to say this in a less cryptic way please BJ?

  • MKB says:

I asked earlier in the week if it was normal for Emyr to take several days to respond to enquiries and was told not. I resubmitted, again using the form at https://bonvivant.co.uk/contact-us/ and still heard nothing back. What am I doing wrong? (And, no, nothing in my Spam folder.)

    • Dylan says:

He’s normally really quick to get back. I’ve had contact with him a few times and usually within 24 hours or so. I follow him on Instagram and I know he’s currently in London so should reply soon I guess.

    • Rob says:

I can’t see any enquiry from this email address in my records. Let me check.

EDIT: no, if I go into WordPress there is no record of you completing a form. If you used a different email let me know, or just post what hotel it was and I can find it from that.

      • AndyGWP says:

Rob – the link posted wasn’t a HFP one, so you wouldn’t see it would you? 🤔

        • MKB says:

That’s correct. I wanted to know if Bon Vivant were an agent for Belmond and could book the Eastern and Oriental Express.

          • Rob says:

Emyr is a member of Belmond’s Bellini Club. Any bookings made through him come with:

VIP welcome treats with a local twist
Flexible on board credit for your clients of up to US$100 per person per journey
Complimentary upgrade based on availability at time of check-in
For bookings of over US$5,000, you receive a US$500 Belmond gift voucher (this needs to be redeemed against a future stay booked by Emyr)

Try emyr.thomas@bonvivant.co.uk if you’ve had issues with the form.

          • MKB says:

            That’s very useful. Thanks Rob.

  • Secret Squirrel says:

I have just gone through all of my VA card 2020 statements and no sign of any voucher line even though I spend over 20k through the card every 3 x months. Any idea why I cannot see any ref to any voucher on my statements?

    • yorkieflyer says:

they are in your virgin atlantic account, not the credit card

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Ah right sorry I thought the voucher showed on your VA CC statement 👍

    • Sean says:

or on the virgin red app under activity – should be listed there.

    • Rob says:

They are not on your card statements. It is on your Virgin Points statement – there will be a line somewhere called ‘Credit card incentive voucher – 0 miles’ or similar.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

If your voucher was awarded in July do you get until the end of July the following year to have flown the outbound leg?

      • Ja says:

On my Virgin rewards statement I have ‘you have qualified for a credit card reward voucher’.with a 0. What is this I was hoping for a flight voucher but as it was dated back in January would have thought it wouldn’t take that long to arrive.

        • Jonathan says:

You have the voucher. There’s no e-mail or hard copy sent, you have to call Virgin Atlantic CS & they will make the booking & apply voucher.

    • happeemonkee says:

Whatsapp them and ask. I got a very quick response from them a couple of nights ago
