Don’t overlook the American Express / Dropbox offer

  I used Dropbox for many years until a couple of years ago, when they changed to app to automatically open recent files, whether you liked it or not. There was a huge outcry on their own forum, but they insisted it was what everyone wanted. One guy was a pathologist – his young daughter opened Dropbox to see gruesome photos from a post mortem. I changed to Google Drive and never looked back.

    Hmmm – how likely is it that a doctor would be allowed to use a commercial product like this to store such sensitive material?

      Why wouldn’t they? Lots of healthcare services use Dropbox – in fact they have a department to market and service them specifically and deal with compliance issues. Nearly all healthcare IT involves using a “commercial product” ; any that doesn’t means it’s NHS made-to-order software, which is almost certainly less secure …… and is always terrible as the end user is not the one paying the bill, wasn’t consulted and is barely even considered.

      NHS stated in 2018 that commercial cloud services are suitable for use (with obvious safeguards).

      Pathologist might have to share with coroner, GP, hospital, police, CPS, researchers etc
      All using different systems.

        Because, obviously, letting your GP get his mate to rig up a ‘secure server’ to store patient details is going to be far more secure, and less likely to lose stuff, than Dropbox, Google etc who have their reputations on the line ….

        Remember the NHS covid app that it thought it would write itself without the co-operation of Apple and Google …. no, you don’t – because it was scrapped at huge expense when it was clear it was rubbish.

        Police and CPS would never use anything like this – most systems can’t even be accessed by other police forces, let alone outside agencies. No wonder the NHS is vulnerable to hackers and ransom demands!

    I’m not impressed in the slightest and I’ve received the breach email from BA this evening.

    Usual BA defence mechanism in full effect and complete load of nonsense.

    I wouldn’t mind so much if they stated that they’ll be reviewing their relationship with SITA in the coming days but BA are absolving themselves of complete responsibility from the get go and no different from the 2018 data breach email.

      There’s not much to review. BA does not have a relationship with SITA. Another airline within OneWorld that BA shares information with in order to provide a seamless customer experience has the relationship with SITA. They are absolving themselves of complete responsibility because they simply are not responsible.

  I took up the Dropbox offer a couple months ago which was also 40% back. Really useful!
