The final British Airways London City A318 aircraft is scrapped

As we covered last year, British Airways announced that the London City Airport to New York JFK service was not going to return post coronavirus.

There were originally two adapted A318 aircraft serving this route, covering the two daily flights.

BA A318 scrapped

When the service was reduced to one flight per day, one aircraft was taken over by Titan Airways for charter work.

The final aircraft has now been sent to Twente Airport in the Netherlands. It will be broken up and used for spare parts, many of which can be used on other short-haul Airbus types.

Here is my review from my last A318 BA1 New York trip in 2019 which did leave me unenthusiastic.

People actually buy the Daily Mail, I thought they had to give it away! Personally wouldn’t use for toilet paper!

BA 1 and 2 will at some stage be resurrected but the demise of LCY JFK can’t be a surprise. The stop outbound was not clever and with improvements at JFK immigration, AA’ superb business class seat it was a no brainer to avoid both the baby bus and club world.

    • ChrisC says:

The stop outbound was what made the flight work – let passengers clear US immigration whilst the plane was fuled up for the SNN-JFK leg due to the take off limits at LCY. Was rather very clever to combine the two.

Admittedly once Global Entry was opened up to UK citizens the immigration process at JFK was easier for those passengers with it

Personally I liked the seat on the A318
