IHG Rewards has rolled over your elite nights from 2020

As part of its plans to make it easier for you to earn or retain your IHG Rewards status in 2021, the programme promised to roll over your elite night total from 2020.
This has now been done. Here is my account:

….. which shows me on 14 nights for the year to date, which clearly I haven’t done.
You can check your total by logging in to the IHG Rewards website here.
How many nights do you need for IHG Rewards status in 2022?
As well as rolling over your elite nights, IHG has retained the lower status thresholds that it introduced last year. This means:
- Gold Elite requires 7,500 base points or 7 nights
- Platinum Elite requires 30,000 base points or 30 nights
- Spire Elite requires 55,000 points or 55 nights
The original requirements are shown on ihg.com here.

If you are qualifying via points, you can earn a bonus with the current IHG promotion
The current IHG Rewards Club promotion has a twist as you can see here.
It is valid for stays up to 31st March, which admittedly isn’t very handy for most of us.
You receive 2,000 bonus points for every two nights you stay. These do not need to be consecutive nights. Importantly, these 2,000 bonus points will also count for status. This means you can make a decent dent into your 2022 requalification.
You need to register on ihg.com here. You need to use code 42050 when prompted.
Will IHG Rewards roll over your status anyway?
Good question.
I think some programmes are going to be in a tricky position later this year. It would not go down well with members if they moved stays to IHG to earn bonus elite points in the Spring promo and then IHG rolled over everyone anyway.
These are also global schemes. Hotels may be closed in the UK, but most are open in the US and China and those are what wags IHG’s tail.
On the other hand, is IHG – or anyone, and I include British Airways etc in this – willing to risk losing a huge chunk of its elite base, giving those customers an excuse to check out the competition next year? Realistically they will want every customer they can get.
