Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Up to 2,000 free Nectar points (1,250 Avios) just for opening the app

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

An odd Nectar promotion appeared on Wednesday morning in the Nectar app.

When you open it, you may (or may not, most people have it but not all) see this:

Click on it. You get a very short marketing message about the value of registering for weekly Nectar bonus points offers via the app.

Once you’ve done that, you will receive a mystery bonus. I got:

Nectar juicy boost

….. but readers have reported bonuses as high as 2,000 Nectar points (1,250 Avios). My wife only got 250, so it varies substantially.

The points post immediately.

Note that if you do not currently have the latest version of the Nectar app on your device, you will be prompted to upgrade before you see your offer.

Once I’d updated the app, and jumped through the silly “juicy” bit, got 500.

£2.50 is a free Costa coffee (or a couple from MaccyD’s!) so worth a minute or two of my time…

  • LST says:

I have to say I have been impressed with Sainsbury’s. I thought I would try them out when the Avios link up was announced and the food quality (particularly the Taste the Difference range) , availability of slots and pricing has been much better than I expected. So much so that I think I will be dumping my usual online supermarket of fifteen years, Ocado, from next month. Ocado pricing is not as competitive as it once was and the M&S products are not as good as the Waitrose lines they replaced (in my humble opinion).

I am the opposite. Quality and variety is worse than Aldi, Asda and Tesco. Ocado ans Waitrose for the the food stuff I regularly buy is less expensive than Sainsbury’s. This just shows it is down to personal preference and eating habits where you shop.

      • LST says:

Sainsbury’s, like Waitrose, don’t have central warehousing, so a lot depends on the lines your local store carries and the individual picking your groceries, I guess?

        • Sam says:

I’ve always found Sainsbury’s selection of foods online very limited, with many items I could easily find in Tesco or Asda, I couldn’t find the same kind in Sainsbury’s (not even brand they just don’t have it). What’s more the quality of the foods is by far the worst in my experience compared with Tesco, Asda, Ocado and Waitrose.
