  The Curio does seem a good option but though they have spent a lot of money on the lobby, restaurant and bar, the rooms have no soundproofing (not the ones we stayed in anyway) so you can hear the traffic all night in the front facing rooms, or the loud buzzing of food delivery mopeds in the rear facing rooms.

    Listed building – won’t be allowed. The first SW3 house we lived in (1850s built) had a brand new conservatory on the rear and Kesington & Chelsea council had banned the conservatory from being double glazed ….

  For the same price Hilton is selling rooms there directly on the Dream Away rate (non-prepaid and cancellable) and early checkin and late checkout. If you don’t have Hilton gold or above then it’s not as good because the rate doesn’t include breakfast.

    Yeah I see that as well Andrew, in fact cheaper than £99, so a pretty poor deal through Travelzoo. Some nice Hiltons available at far less than this, like the Shoreditch Curio at £79.

      And earn HH points and status nights going directly (and avoid your money being tied up with a third party). As they say, nothing to see here.

      Look later in the year and you’re paying £200 for a deluxe room and that’s without breakfast or a bottle of wine.

        It would always be with free breakfast for gold or above HH, which is most of HFP and a bottle of wine is £7 from Waitrose next door. But take your point, albeit that the rates are higher later in the year *at the moment*, but as we move closer to the time and international visitors to the UK remain low throughout 2021, the prices will go down.

          Agree. At the moment is an important distinction

          Let’s be honest if the current travel rules persist there won’t be an in flux of tourists to London so expect rates to be low.

          And even if the rules do ease, people’s appetite to travel to the UK will be much lower than normal and there are a lot of hotel rooms in London to fill, so prices will need to be keen to attract tourists and domestic guests.

          Not sure I can agree. The weather will be getting better soon and UK hotels will be opening up. I can see domestic travel being given the green light well before international travel. People are siting on a lot of money and Rishi want’s us to spend it in the UK and may even offer more incentives to encourage that spending at home.

          London hotel prices are also driven by business, and with work from home being the rule far into the year, plus the huge drop in international travellers, there will be discounted rates at London hotels right through 2021. No way these rates will rise to normal levels

          I used to achieve Spire status on IHG from work stays alone in London, so that’s 70 nights a year spent at hotels in the city. Even once we are allowed to by law to travel, my employer will ask that meetings which used to require me to travel are either done on zoom or done in a day trip, because of belt-tightening so I think my hotel stays will be once in a blue moon at least for a couple of years until old habits slip back in.

  Travelzoo does have some decent deals which are all fully refundable which is a big plus in the current climate. I recently applied for a refund on a voucher which was processed promptly.

  I bought a voucher last year for the new kimpton in Barcelona which runs until 2022. Fingers crossed can use it this year- I hope they will recognise IHG status.

  I reckon there is a lot of pent up demand within the UK for a holiday break, even a domestic one…so I would guess if restrictions do get relaxed then bookings (and prices) will go up.

    London prices are already outrageous for April, I have a long-standing provisional booking for the IC O2, locked in just over £200 pn for a Club Suite for 4 of us, price for the same suite now over £300 pn.

  Got a free night at the O2 IC for early June, hopefully to see Alicia Keys, but prob about 1% chance of that. Will still come down for the break though, can’t be bothered trying to extend that credit card night again
