Your BA American Express 2-4-1 companion vouchers have been extended (again)

  This is weird. Can anyone explain?
  I have made a booking with a 241 voucher. It was issued in March 2018.
  The booking last year was cancelled and rebooked for July this year. However, the voucher shows as expires Mar 2021 (no 6 month extension), and it expires before the outward flight is due to take place. I thought that a booking had to be made before the expiry???

    Nope, the outward flight has to be taken by the expiry date.

    Sorry I misread your post. The expiry dates shouldn’t count if they have cancelled and rebooked you on a future flight

      So, if BA cancel the flight and I decide NOT to take a FTV, the 241 will already have expired and be of no use?

        You can see the new expiry date of your (used) 241 on ba.com under the ‘Used Vouchers’ heading. This is the date you would be working to if BA cancelled the flight and you chose not to be rebooked under the ’12 months from the date your paid the taxes on the original booking’ rule.

        So, as I understand it, if you booked in July 2020 for travel in Feb 2021, using a voucher expiring in March 2021, you would be able to move the flight to any date (irrespective of Avios availability) up to July 2021. This assumes it is BA who cancelled and not you.

  Morning all, just checked my account andsome of my vouchers have been extended but not all. I have two, one GUP2 issued 29/3/19 expiring 29/3/21 and one GUP1 issued 18/04/18 expiring 18/4/21 which have not been extended. Anybody else have this issue? Is this BA IT being slow? or should I call them?

  Just checked mine:
  Issued 07/09/20 expires 07/03/23 – but that was already extended 6 months when it credited
  Issued 23/10/18 now expires 23/10/21
  Issued 29/09/19 now expires 29/03/22
  So both my other 2 have been extended by 6 months, although I may have to use 1 (or both)for a booking at some point this year and then cancel for a FTV to extend to 2023 as I still can’t see myself being able to use them quickly enough.

  Bizarrely our’s hasn’t been extended again, issued July 2020, extended once to January 2023 but not this time.

  Neither my wife, mine nor my friend’s Gold upgrade vouchers expiring in 2021 have been extended. I am a bit dubious as to whether this is truly a blanket extension for all vouchers. The 2-4-1 vouchers on my wife’s account have been extended.

    Actually i think i’m wrong. I think they were extended but they still expire before Dec 31st 2021 because the extension was from June for 6 months.

  BA 241 voucher extended to summer 2022

  So got my Maldives flights fully refunded rather than taking a travel voucher.

  In a few weeks I can have fun staying up til midnight trying to bag it for next spring.

    You should assume not, given the long list above of vouchers which are being extended.

      presumably on the assumption that Lloyds voucher from a legacy credit card hence no incentive to retain any customers by Avios and/or card issuer?

  Hi,

  I was wondering if there’s someone on here who’d be kind enough to help with something, regarding an upcoming BA trip;

  Last June I booked a return trip to Seattle in First, using my Amex 2 for 1 voucher. The trip was scheduled for April this year. The 2 for 1 voucher expired during the middle of the trip, after I’d been scheduled to fly on the outbound. This was fine and managed to secure the First flights (outbound and return).

  Last week, BA cancelled the outbound flight, however they put me onto a later flight. I called BA, as the outbound flight time did not suit. I moved the trip completely, flying to within 1 year of flying of the booking date, which I was told it could not be extended any further into the future, without my 2 for 1 voucher expiring completely. The new dates were not ideal, but I was being flexible.

  I called BA today to ask if I could move my First flights to July or August, as worried about current government restrictions in both the UK and entering the USA. They told me that my 2 for 1 voucher had been extended over the last couple of days. They said I couldnt move it anyway, as there was no “Avios availability” in First in July, August or September. They’ve told me that I could have a voucher to the same value of the avios and taxes for both myself and partner. I was also told that if BA cancel my flight again, they would ONLY be able to offer me First or Clubworld if there was “Avios Availability” This is really not what I want, as want to fly to my destination in First (as per original booking), but really worried about travel restrictions.

  Where do I stand? Please can anyone advise.

    I will have the first go at this.

    @Wazza your error was when BA cancelled even one flight off your booking last week, at that point you had the righf to get a refund for the whole lot.

    Instead you rebooked, so until BA cancels or significantly reschedules another flight on your booking, you’re stuck

    Btw if they cancel there is *no* requirement for there to be any avios seat on the flight you choose to be rerouted to. If a seat is available for sale in your cabin level you have a right to it if BA cancelled any flight on your booking. HUACA if you get that rubbish again.

    If it’s you wanting to movs then yes you do need avios seat availability.

    I see 2 choices: hang on and hope BA cancels something again then insist on move to what you want. Practically speaking I do not think BA will be able to fully sustain their current refusal to issue a new ticket if your chosen flight is more than 12 months after you booked, for much longer. If BA doesnt cancel any part of your booking then about 3 days before I might just accept the cancellation fees and cancel.

    Alternatively you could look at taking an FTV giving yourself to end April 2023 to fly it all but you will need avios availability and same people travelling.

      Thank you so much for you advice. I’ve never been in a position where I’ve needed to move a 2 for 1 Companion flight. Normally I’d just move my cash bookings to alternative dates that suit me. Thank you again for your help and advice, really appreciate it.
