The HfP chat thread – Saturday 13th February

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Any recent stays at the Bodrum EDITION? Another option I’m considering for October 2021 so keen to hear any reviews and feedback.

Can I take Skis as one of my two bags on a Club Class ticket (LHR-INN)? Advice on the BA web site seems to be confusing, as it suggests I can if within allowed dimensions, but when I check the allowed dimensions I can’t see how Skis would ever fit! Anyone with any experience of this?

    • kitten says:

It will 100% be on the website but could be worth checking LH group airlines too as IIRC LX carries skis for free on season and LH or OS might too

    • BJ says:

You can take them as part of your checked bag allowance. Unless you are a giant and using 2m+ skis I doubt you’ll have any problems.

    • Jonathan says:

I’ve taken skis on BA numerous times & they’ve always been counted as one of your standard bags. I always stick jacket, gloves, thermals etc in with skis & never got close to weight limit. I’ve also taken a bike which is much bigger than skis without issue.

    • jj says:

BA changed the wording on their website last year to make it sound as if skis don’t fit within the required dimensions. I checked with them on 22 SEP and they replied, “You can take your skis as checked baggage so long as they weigh no more than your permitted baggage weight. The maximum dimensions would be 190 x 75 x 65cm.”

That was for a transatlantic trip in First but I know of another person who has been told the same for Club Europe. However, a different agent told him that a charge would be levied under the new wording.

I would ask the question myself and keep a record of the answer.

Am I correct that I can use e-codes to pay for iPhone at Curry’s and leave it a bit short to pay with Amex the remaining say £20 and get S75 protection?

    • tom1 says:

Yes but only Amex credit cards, not charge cards. Technically I think it only has to be £1 or more on the credit card , so long as the value of the item is £100 or more.

If Amex charge, they have their own similar protection, but I think it’s voluntary scheme so not protected by “law”.

    • Benilyn says:

Consider buying at JL for 2Y warranty

    • Sina says:

Make sure they have your iPhone before buying gift cards as iPhone 12 pro is out of stock in almost all stores except Apple and Harrods.

  • James says:

Seems Jan’s HH credit card points came in two transfers. One looks like normal spend and the other a mixture of Ernie and Bristol’s finest investment platform.
