IHG Rewards Club becomes IHG Rewards in rebranding

IHG and IHG Rewards Club have revealed a new ‘visual identity’, as they are called these days.

Say goodbye to the orange:

and say hello to a more serious-looking black:

The word ‘Club’ has also disappeared.

This has been done to “make [IHG] more relevant and attractive to consumers – particularly a younger demographic of consumers”.

In particular, the word ‘Club’ was removed to “reflect the warm welcome that is available to all”.

    always liked the orange edges on my IHG credit card, it really made it stand out in my wallet

    Be interesting to see if they re-brand the IHG card, for existing or just new members, I think Bonvoy did for new cards only? Also if this means the Premium version will come back out under the new marketing push…

    I wonder what will happen to the stash of old mugs?

    It was always quite sweet to have my plain white mug switched out for a “IHG Gold Elite” mug for my coffee at breakfast time.

    As for the new logo. The kerning just feels a bit wrong.

    ……..I’m pretty sure way back when, the orange was done to have IHG more relevant and attractive to a younger customer demographic

      I agree. I’m not against something a bit classier but it won’t help you get down with the kids (who, anyway, are unlikely to be booking direct at ihg.com anyway).

      Surprised no-one has yet commented on Hotel Indigo being placed into the ‘luxury’ segment in the new grouping, alongside InterCon, Six Senses and Regent.

    I’m in the ‘young demographic’ group and quite like the new style. Orange has a cheap, no frills vibe about it.

    I don’t know why they had to drop ‘club’ from it though. I want to feel like part of an exclusive, members only elite club that gives special benefits to just a few select hotel guests, even if that is far from reality with IHG.

    ‘Rewards’ own it’s own makes it sound like a lack-luster supermarket points scheme. I guess that’s almost what IHG is, unlike the far superior Marriott Bonvoy Elite and Hilton Honours loyalty clubs that do properly reward their loyal guests!

      I wonder if that’s what a typical “young” clientele wants nowadays though? I’m not far from leaving that bracket anymore, but I don’t think I can name a single person I know who has any interest in collecting reward points etc.

      The few people I know with credit cards just use a bog standard card from the same bank as their (usually only) current account with zero rewards. The only other young person I know with an Amex will only use it for booking flights (why, is beyond me!) and puts all their spend on their debit card.

      I’ve also met so many people abroad raving about how incredible Emirates etc is because they serve free food and drinks on the plane – completely oblivious to the fact the majority of long haul carriers do the same. We’ve grown up in a no-frills, budget world – maybe we (as a whole) don’t expect things like hotel points and status any more?

    It does feel odd to position Indigo as a luxury brand. I’ve only stayed in two of them and luxury isn’t a word I’d use. Crowne Plaza is more luxury. In fact the CP Vientiane in Laos is nicer than many Intercontinental hotels I’ve stayed in.

    I’ve just noticed that the G on the old logo is identical to the Google G which they seem to be using more independently to the rest of the word as a standalone logo now, so maybe that was part of the reason to change
