The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 27th January

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Having a bit of a clean out (maybe an ex-hoarder now) and I found a box file that was very heavy to lift from the cupboards.
Upon opening it I discovered that it was completely packed with old (thankfully used ) 3v cards. All neatly packed standing in rows. I would estimate there to be about 1,000 cards there. Completely forgot it was there, probably stored them in case of any later problems / charge backs
A trip down memory lane to the good old days

Similar thing happened with myself recently, I was poking around in the garage and came across sone old boxes of my late uncle, amongst which was his extensive porn collection, after a fairly lengthy peruse I call up a company in Holloway and they came round and bought the lot on the spot, there’s a really good market for it apparently

Same here, paid for an iPad Pro years ago with gift cards, and kept them all in case of a dispute.. had a smile when l saw them.. those indeed were the days…always felt guilty buying a stack of 3v cards at tills.

Hope we didn’t contribute to the downfall of the 4 Irish lads who set up the company! They really didn’t plan on all the gift cards being used! Mind you they were all physics grads from Trinity college, Dub, so am sure they are successful in whatever they do.

They are excellent as windscreen ice clearers.

Apologies if mentioned already but just noticed the ‘Smart Rewards’ are now available in the MBNA app to view/save (as well as online which Rob talked about last week in an article)

    • ChrisC says:

Well there as a button but clicking it gets a “technical issues” message,

On the web I get a message saying the card I linked was an old one and a load of error messages yet I’m sure last week I linked my one and only current card.

Not the most reliable system yet.

And yet another quality retailed added – Anne Summers!

    • Bigmaggot says:

Great, was waiting for this 🙂 No offers 🙁

  • Mark says:

Anyone see any issues, following the recent announcements for flying MAN to HR and back within 4 hours?

    • Tracey says:

      Did you mean LHR?
If so, the only question in my mind would be ‘is your journey essential?’ Does it qualify as a reason to be outside your home?
