  Hi using avios for a UUA from WT+ to J ; route is INV-LAX return. I’m being quoted £280pp in extra “taxes” along with the avios. Does this seem normal in terms of surcharge?

    Seems about right yes. J to F there isn’t usually any differences in charges though.

    Yes that’s correct. It’s called the “Carrier Greed” component of ‘taxes’ and has nothing to do with taxes.

  I got good news from my accountant today, tax bill £15k less than I expected. As I had being pre-paying via curve, at the max £1,500 a day allowed by my Virgin card, I have now overpaid by £10k. It will be interesting to see how the refund arrives, previously refunds have always been made by cheque.

  This got me wondering if anyone deliberately overpays HMRC as a way of generating MS.

    I don’t usually fly anywhere Virgin goes but have other earning options.

  It looks like easyJet have removed many UK to Canaries flights scheduled in March. I haven’t had cancellations through yet, but the flights went off sale today

    Wife and daughter just decided to stay out there. Looking at after Easter before they might be able/want to return.

    So I can party on, down to the pub every night, curries with my pals, all-nighters at mine…..

    In my dreams, only!

    ps. Read the Telegraph city guys about Rolls-Royce. Their engines just aren”t being run and they reckon mass long-haul is dead for a long time – maybe until the next pandemic comes!
    All those plans I had for a round-the-world with a multi-partner ticket – thank goodness for Nectar.

    Yes they are having a massacre so far as I can tell. Some destinations done further ahead. And not niche ones either.

    I wish Easyjet well and hope the money they just raised is not wasted just trying to hang on through another disastrous summer. I think there will be summer flights, but it will be stressful for a while and have a late start.

  Today, they would only let me rebook up to the date of the anniversary of the purchase date, insisted we flew back by that date from Asia. Opened up revenue J seats for us out to SIN and back from HKG. Took ages but sorted.

    I don’t think they have the right to do that Polly. Lots of people only want or can go to a certain place at a certain time of each year or for a specific event.

    There is no reason an airline can’t issue a new ticket if a flight is needed beyond the original ticketing date plus one year, and when it suits them airlines can and do do this. So I think this one -year thing is spurious when it comes to the airline’s obligation to reroute passengers off the flights they cancel onto other flights that are convenient to the passenger (as in the legislation).

    However there is a very slight unclarity in the wording on this and it would be nice to see a court judgment clarify this right – especially if someone booked 350 days ahead and then their flight is cancelled and they wouldn’t want to go to t he same place for another year due to their reason for travel.

      I agree, as one person commented their tickets have been reissued way beyond their 1 yr issue date, here in the past few days. Agent double checked with manager, and l pointing out their policy. But as she reminded me this ticket was bought in the avios sale, and they allowed a longer exp date as opposed to the June date. But it’s only 2 weeks earlier leaving which is fine. Says it’s the club suites but seat plans is the 242 config. Just hope they put suits on. Not F seat in sight in November but will keep an eye out to u/g.

        Plus another good point, which meant l didn’t pursue it too much. Instead of leaving from JER w positioning flights, they gave us now return from LHR. With no increase in taxes. So left it alone, and 1/4 avios in total, so it’s a result. Luckily Oct Nov suits us.
