We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions. With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

I wonder if anyone has managed to cancel or amend an Avios booking made with a Lloyds upgrade voucher recently. Last year I was able to cancel and get the voucher and points reinstated and a refund of fees to my credit card. I then rebooked for a year later, naively thinking Covid would be a memory by then. Is the policy still the same? My flight isn’t till the end of April so I understand that things may have changed by then, but would like to start thinking through my options.

  Call them, really helpful, I’ve changed, amended, cancelled, no problems. The latest is that I now have until the end of March to use my two remaining vouchers. But, with a bit of luck the date will be pushed out again.

      I’ve used my final two Lloyds vouchers for flights in mid-October 2021. Surely they won’t need to be moved…… then again…… 🦠

        When we moved our April flight from last year we thought we’ll at least we are getting away in August. That one also got moved a year on as well. We’re beginning to think about that one being postponed again also.

Sometimes a pending transaction lists as something odd like that but when it clears it shows as the proper shop – Selfridges Birmingham always shows as “Krispy Kreme Selfridges” when pending regardless of what till you pay at, but once cleared it shows as Selfridges Birmingham and any money back triggers correctly.

My waitrose spend has always appeared as Waitrose cafe when pending, it corrects itself when it posts.

How does one go about paying for council tax via Amex? I vaguely recall something about paying at pay points?

  My council allows payment by PayPal and you can link your Amex to it. Am actually counting on it to reach the 15k spend for gold card.
  Check your council tax statement – if it allows pay point, some (very few now) merchants allow payment by Amex.

    Note that with some councils even if they accept payment by Paypoint (at Co Op), if you pay by direct debit your council tax bill will not show a Paypoint barcode. As such, you’ll have to cancel the DD and get them to send a revised bill.

    +1, it’s very handy to hit a target spend, and you can pay our council any amount at any time, seemingly, as long as you’re ahead with the payments. I just paid £1k into my council tax account to help hit a £2.5k spend for 10k bonus MR points on my gold Amex.

Can anyone confirm when Hyatt double your stay credits? I stayed 15 nights, received explorist status but the 15 nights have not been doubled as yet? TIA

      The bonus points post first. As long as they are there, you can be sure that the extra nights will be there after a few days and your status will change to Globalist.
