  Just called Brighton to ask about retention bonuses. Got offered 10k bonus points for £2.5k spend on my gold card which I’ve just hit the 1st anniversary on. With the anniversary bonus this will mean 20k points. I think it’s doable as I’ve decided to hold off applying for OH’s Platinum until next year for various reasons!

      I just rang the number on the back of my card then asked for the offers and retentions dept which I assume is Brighton! Though it could have been someone abroad with a very credible English accent.

  I can’t believe BA still isn’t allowing online cancellations for avios bookings where the flight is still running. My return leg from GCM in August is cancelled so I could apply for a refund online but have to call to cancel the outbound!

    Just had the same happen to me. In fairness I got through fairly quickly and points were refunded in seconds with taxes back in my card within 3 days.

      Yes, it’s taken me 37 minutes from start to finish to get through and cancel 2 bookings and avios and 2 x 241s back in our respective accounts straight away. TBH though, if it was possible I would have cancelled online and paid the fees rather than call so BA is not doing itself any favours here.

      Just wondering about making a speculative booking for May/June half term now as Easter looks more and more likely to cancel. Bahamas maybe? I’m thinking the ME will be getting very hot by then. OH hasn’t got leave but the teenager is plenty big enough to pull the cases now!

        I’ve booked Santorini for early June this morning.Temperatures look good and not super busy that time of the year, plus I am not sure if cruises will be up and running by then. Fingers crossed as this is attempt number 4 at our wedding!

  Just saw your comment on yesterday’s chat thread. Thanks for explaining the difference between Bonus A & B. I still have not received my Bonus B, though I have received £150 for Bonus A. Not sure why is that, when I have met all the criteria for eligibility. I will chase this and let you know.

  Funnily, I just received an email from MLP saying only one of the friends I referred has met the eligibility criteria, but they credited £150 for my referrals, which I presume is for 3 referees. This goes on to show how mismanaged and ludicrous the whole process is!

      I recently switched to Igloo. They offer lower rates than Bulb & Octopus, and allow Amex top-ups keeping the direct debit low. The cherry on top is that they pay 3% interest on the account credit! 🙂

      Their Trustpilot reviews are also very very good.

    Just on this, I’ve just snagged a retention offer – spend £2.5k but I’m about to get a £1600 refund from BA onto the same card. Will this affect the spend target one way or another?

      Yes, it will affect your retention bonus spend target as I recently found out after receiving a refund from Qatar! 🙁
