The HfP chat thread – Friday 15th January

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone know when credit card balances are reported to credit reference agencies? Had a delayed payment charge for a card in Nov, that was reversed after request – wondering if I am in the clear now or should I still be expecting a hit to the score.

    • The real John says:

Look at what dates that card previously reported to all 3 agencies

    • James. says:

This depends on the lender. This is a mine field (as I have found out). I got stung by MBNA reporting I had £6k on a credit card when in fact the amount was cleared 10 weeks before. Which lender are you referring to?

      • BuildBackBetter says:

        Creation.

        • James. says:

They normally report using balances from the end of the month. I have just got my clear score and doesn’t show January update. Experian is due in 5 days so will see if that captures an update.

    Update on Revolut.
They actually accepted my SOF. Yay!

I didn’t realise I spend so much (hey big spender). Apparently I spent £179K in the last year. 🙄🤣

    My account is unlocked now.

    • Alex says:

If you don’t mind asking, what SOF did you give? Especially if you aren’t earning those kind of sums

      • Boi says:

I gave them my payslips and bank statements from Canada for Oct-Dec (which I am lucky coz it’s more than double my U.K. pay and it’s paid without tax deduction). I also gave rental agreement for house in Ireland and apartment in Leeds. I don’t know if they actually add up but they didn’t ask for anything extra.

        • Boi says:

Ps, my pay in Canada will be more than that (gross) so that may have helped…… I don’t want to give people false impression but wanted to say if you provide what they are looking for then they do unblock the account.

          • Anna says:

I’m going to stop worrying about putting £1k a week through it now 😂

    • Bigmaggot says:

      £15k a month, fair play!

    • Tom says:

Sorry late to the party. What are people using Revolut for?

  • Darren says:

Just had notification of a flight time change by 2hrs. It’s the return leg LHR to NCL after a holiday in the US. I guess this wouldn’t be justification for moving the whole trip to later in the year?

    American Express – AML checks

Hello, I’ve got an AMEX Business Gold card that I’ve had for a few years. I opened a new business in July, and closed the old one that I applied for this card with a few years ago. As the card was linked to my personal credit record, and didn’t have the old business listed anywhere on the card, I didn’t get around to changing the card. They are now saying they are doing some routine AML checks – has anyone managed to get AMEX to change the business details on an AMEX? Thanks

Natwest £70 back offer for recontracting Sky TV

Anyone know if just swapping the DD account to this one would trigger it…?

  • Keely says:

Evening all I’ve had a refund from BA – and they’ve clawed back almost 4000 avios based on the assumption that I received 3 points per £ spend . However I paid for these fees on the free card (before upgrading) so only received one avios per £ ….anyone had experience of this please..? Thanks

    • Adam says:

Just speak to Amex via chat and explain the original transaction earned one avios per £ and ask them to refund the avios difference. I did it in the past, no issue.

      • Keely says:

Thanks Adam . Didn’t know it if was worth bothering but I’ll give it a go now thanks
