Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Thursday 14th January

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Flights to Seychelles in March have been cancelled by BA (not that we would be able to go there realistically). Was booked in F on Avios. Seems BA completely stopped the route now. I asked this before here but seems Qatar only fly in J. Could I demand reroute on different airline in F but later in the year? I suspect it will be a fight, but my reading of EU261 would make me think I am entitled to this (whether I get it is a different question). Or I get downgrade compo for Qatar?

It’s a pandemic, try for a mutually agreeable swap (e.g. Qatar and perhaps some points back), personally I’d rather fly Qatar business va BA first given a choice.

My flights to Seychelles were cancelled by BA for end of May. Was also flying in First. They quite willingly offered Qatar business flights around the same dates. Qatar then cancelled the Doha to Mahé flights so i changed the outbound to a few days earlier to extend our trip. In regards to the Avios ba offered the difference back. I tried to argue for the 75% but they would not budge on that. I have not accepted them yet but am tempted to do so as I’m not sure how much work will be involved to fight for them. Let us know how you get on

Given whats going on in the world right now i don’t think trying to squeeze every last dime our of an airline is the way to go. As per my last comment, Qatar business is superior to BA first. If they gave you access to CCL + Qatar and your points difference back that would be a win/win IMHO. Oh and BA(not sure about qatar) didnt pay for SEZ lounge access so make sure you have a priority pass for the SEZ lounge.
