The HfP chat thread – Monday 11th January

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone’s virgin points from Morrison been approved yet?

  • AJA says:

Apparently Heathrow has seen a 73% drop in passenger numbers in 2020 – we’ve gone back to 1975 levels. It only had just over 22 million passengers, a drop of 59 million from 2019!

    • Aston100 says:

I’m surprised the number of passengers wasn’t lower.
Then again, given so many people don’t want to follow the spirit of lockdown and are seeking to find grey areas that allow them to go off on holidays, perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised afterall.

      • AJA says:

Apparently December was up over 1 million passengers. I suspect that the majority of the 22million were in the first quarter.

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

Dubai added to Scotland’s self-isolation list – and backdated to Jan 3rd.

Has wee Nikki worked out how to blame that on Boris yet?!

      • James says:

        Boring

      • StevieKicks says:

        “wee Nikki” 🙄

      • Brian W says:

Your posts are usually informative and very well informed and versed @Anna 🤷🏼‍♂️ You’ve just, however, plummeted in my estimations based on that nonsense and incredibly ill-informed post. I can’t stand Sturgeon for many reasons, but that claim, wow, scraping the bottom of your barrel for reasons that are obvious to many of us English living north of the border 😂 🤦🏼‍♂️

  • Alejandro says:

    trading212 refferal codes anyone? thanks

  • 747_Brat says:

Just had an email come through from Amex informing me that they have reduced my credit limit by 66%.

I know many people here have faced this and successfully managed to reinstate their credit limit. Please could you share your experience if you managed to get Amex to reinstate your credit limit.
    Thanks.

    • Alex says:

Have you taken out a new Amex recently? Or any new forms of credit?

      • 747_Brat says:

No, haven’t taken a new credit card from Amex or other card companies in a while.

    • johnny_c-l says:

Ring them and they will give you an email address to send copies of your last 3 months of bank statements to. Within 24 hours they will be checked and credit limit reinstated (assuming all is OK).

    • Sloth says:

Haha seems your ‘flirting’ with the call centre staff the other day didn’t go down quite so well afterall….maybe this is what you actually asked for in Tagalog….

      • Harry T says:

Couldn’t help but laugh at this

      • DodgyDCF says:

Had a chuckle at this 😂😂

@747_Brat were your comments previously not cancelling cards or asking for point/retention bonuses? do you think this is related?

I’ve aggregated my credit limit to one gold credit card and its now £50k but I only ever use 1% or so, and I will be cancelling some of my other amex cards, I think they may reduce my limit.

        • TGLoyalty says:

I think that’s a recipe for not getting approved for another Amex.

          • DodgyDCF says:

I still need to cancel the useless platinum, had it for about 3 months with no upgrade bonus

    • TGLoyalty says:

Did that flirting catch up with you :p

  • Tarmohamed says:

Amex executive team have confirmed that they will manually credit 2x£250 to my account for Etihad Spend on main and supplementary platinum cards. The transaction in foreign currency was eligible.

  • Mike P says:

The UAE has been removed from the travel corridor list, effective as at 4am tomorrow morning

    • Navara says:

That’s due to the rise in cases after all the Christmas holidays there.

  • James says:

Anyone else having issues with Bendy + Ernie + the honourable one? Declined test transactions over the last few days…
