The HfP chat thread – Thursday 7th January

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

First time in a long while I’ve not read an HfP article first thing in the morning!

  • Baji Nahid says:

Rob is just taking some time off after his 17 day Dubai trip! Give him some space 😉

Probably building the suspense for the big BA food story!

  • Lynn says:

Just read this in the BA terms and conditions that I wasn’t aware of
The price quoted excludes a surcharge of 1% of the cost of your booking, up to £20.00 per passenger that may be levied if you pay by corporate card or with PayPal.

    • John says:

      Unlikely to affect most people

    • Andrew says:

Always been the case that if you select the card type as a corporate card you get charged the old credit card surcharge which until a couple of years ago personal customers based in the U.K. also did.

  • Czechoslovakia says:

    Groundhog Day? What I miss…?

  • Mark says:

    Where are today’s articles?
I blame Brexit everyone said this type of thing would happen.

    • Craig says:

      They are in quarantine.

    • Andrew says:

And no Amex offers today either — right dull day this has turned out to be! And all that hype about who the new buy onboard company is – turned out to just be Tom Kerridge – so basically a random catering company will be making his sandwich recipes.

      • Craig says:

You can come and stand in the cold for 12 hours with me if you want. Another day herding cars and octogenarians, 310 vaccines yesterday with very close to 100% turnout. Particularly impressed by Mr B, 93, walked a third of a mile in -2 with two walking sticks!

        • Yuff says:

Mr B deserves a medal and a cup of tea
          👏🏻

        • kitten says:

Thank you for doing that Craig.

        • Zoe says:

Craig great to see someone making a personal decision based on what is good for everyone not just what they want. Happy to be a part of HFP when it includes people like you.

      • Number9 says:

Blimey who knew sandwiches had recipes.

    • Chrisasaurus says:

      Stuck at Calais…

    • Chris says:

No articles today in EU either, we normally have to wait until 7am for them. I hear in brexit Britain boris gets them to you for 6am 😉

  • DJ says:

Also the HfP website has been very slow lately!

    • Rob says:

We had fixed that yesterday. However it seems part of the fix also screwed up the publishing schedule!

Excellent news that the U.K. is finally taking its border seriously and hopefully deters leisure travellers at this time.
