How to earn Marriott Bonvoy points flying Emirates and get Emirates status benefits at Marriott hotels

Marriott Bonvoy and Emirates Skywards have a low profile partnership called ‘Your World Rewards’.  It allows you to double dip with Emirates Skywards miles and Marriott Bonvoy points in the same transaction.

‘Your World Rewards’ is designed to encourage Emirates flyers to stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels and vice versa.  The bottom line is that signing up is a no-brainer if you qualify

Do you qualify for ‘Your World Rewards’?

‘Qualifying’ means that you have either:

  • Gold Elite status or higher in Marriott Bonvoy or
  • Silver status or higher in Emirates Skywards

Full details can be found on the Emirates website here and on the Marriott website here.

Your World Rewards Marriott Emirates

If you are an Emirates status member staying at a Marriott hotel:

If you are an Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold or Platinum member you will receive 1 Skywards mile for every $1 you spend in a Marriott Bonvoy hotel.  Importantly, this is in addition to the Marriott Bonvoy points that you already receive.  It is a genuine extra benefit.

If you are a Gold or Platinum (sorry Silvers!) Skywards member, you will also receive additional Marriott Bonvoy benefits which are equivalent to those that a Gold-level Bonvoy member would receive.  These are:

  • Priority check-in
  • 4pm late check-out subject to availability (this is better than Bonvoy Gold who only get 2pm)
  • Free wi-fi

If you are a Bonvoy member flying with Emirates:

Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite, Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite members will receive 3 Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 spent on Emirates flights.  All Emirates flights count as long as your ticket is under an EK flight code.

This is a very generous deal in my view.  I value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.5p eachA £3,000 ($3,750) Emirates business class flight would therefore earn you £55+ of free hotel stays.  This is on top of your usual Skywards miles.

Remember that you can obtain Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for free by signing up for the American Express Platinum charge card.  You will retain your Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for the rest of the current membership year even if you later choose to cancel your Platinum card.

The Platinum Card comes with a sign-up bonus of 30,000 American Express Membership Rewards points which converts into 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

  • Tarmohamed says:

Not sure if it’s still running, last year I managed to get Platinum Elite with Bonvoy as they status matched Hilton Gold

    • Anon says:

Do you have to show a valid stay in the last 12 months?

      • Saiz says:

Did you do a stay challenge then, for example, 10 stays in 3 months or was it a straight match.

      • Tarmohamed says:

Screenshot of gold status and a stay in the last 12 months. Matched to platinum elite for 90 days and think I need to stay at a Marriot for 14 nights to keep.

  • Anon says:

Do Emirates still give you skyward miles for your flight, in addition to bonvoy points?

  • southlondonphil says:

Signed up for this partnership a couple of years ago then forgot all about it as I didn’t fly with Emirates for ages. Flew LHR-DXB last month and realise that didn’t get any partner points in my Bonvoy account so thanks for the reminder to chase it up with Marriott!

  • Dev says:

This is genuinely a good a benefit. Even if you are not a regular EK flyer but do have At least Gold on Bonvoy, you are essentially earning 1 mile/point on whichever airline you normally collect with on the airfare element of the EK ticket.

You get 3 points per $1 spent on EK, which translates to 1 mile or point of your choice via Bonvoy conversions.

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Would’ve been nice if they allowed converting Emirates miles to Bonvoy points.

  • Stuart Evans says:

Do Emirates still code share with Qantas? If so, is it better to credit point to Avios? Or can you do both?

    • Alex says:

This only works on the EK flight code, and you can only earn Avios on the QF codes hare so no, you have to pick one. Numbers wise, it depends where you have a reasonable possibility of getting enough miles for a redemption

  • meta says:

Marriott also runs once per year a targeted promos for Your World Reward members. I received end Dec an offer for an extra 10k Bonvoy points over the next three stays till 22nd March. I probably won’t be able to take advantage, but it’s a nice little extra earner.

    • DeB20 says:

Did you try to register though? I received the email offer and when I tried to register for it, the browser opened a page with a message stating that I am not eligible for the offer and it might have been sent to me in error. Have both Gold Bonvoy and Gold Skywards status on Emirates.

Other travel blogs that I read also have comments from other readers reporting that they could not register for the offer.

      • meta says:

I registered just fine on the app.

        • DeB20 says:

Thanks, that’s interesting. I’ll call Bonvoy CS when I get back to the UK. There must be some error in the background.

  • Alex says:

I feel like something is missing on the EK side, they should give business lounge access at DXB or something like that for Marriott golds and above.

    • blenz101 says:

Why? Giving lounge would incur an some actual cost to EK and visitors to DXB are not shy about asserting their ‘rights’. Good luck turning people away due to capacity issues.

Marriot on the other hand incur zero incremental costs with the ‘benefits’ offered.

      • BuildBackBetter says:

Marginal cost to EK if the lounge is their own. They’ll only be spending on more food and drinks. Having said that, titanium bonvoy is probably a level they can recognise. Obviously has the problem of crowding.

    • Fraser says:

Marriott Gold doesn’t even get you into a Marriott lounge, so why should it get you into an Emirates lounge?

    • Pangolin says:

Disagree. Marriott Gold is practically worthless and you can get it with a credit card and zero stays.

As Fraser says, it won’t even get you into a Marriott lounge.

Of course, if they offered lounge access for Titanium members I’d have no objections 🙂
