Happy Christmas to you and your family from all of the team here at HfP.

Long term readers will know that this Christmas Day article is generally used for people to discuss where they have flown to for a Christmas break.

This year, of course, is different. Many plans have been ruined, not just now but across the year. Whilst we are a travel site and travel is what unites us, it is important to remember that many people will be having a far worse Christmas than a lost holiday, away for their loved ones or remembering someone they lost this year.

Life cycles on, of course. Anika is just days away from the birth of her second daughter, whilst Sinead is also expecting her first child in the next few weeks. My first child was born on 27th December so I know what a heavily pregnant Chrismas is like. Rhys is off in Canterbury whilst I headed off to the Middle East for a holiday a few days before London dropped into Tier 4. When I will get back is a different question ….

I hope you enjoy a well deserved break, wherever in the world you are and whoever you are with. If you are not with anyone, you are definitely not alone in being alone.

Thank you for your support over the past crazy year. It may get worse before it gets better, but let’s focus on Easter for some sort of return to normality.

We will slowly get back into things tomorrow, with at least one article and the return of the chat thread.

With our best wishes,

Rob and the HfP team

Merry Christmas to Rob, Anika (Frohe Weihnachten und ein glückliches Neues Jahr), Sinead and Rhys. Congratulations and thank you for keeping us in high spirits this year.

Having lost two jobs in a row, the first thanks to Brexit which resulted in my role moving to Frankfurt and my pidgin Deutsche as evidenced above not being considered suitable enough for the clients I covered in DACH and neighbouring countries (they happen to speak English really well 🙄) but EU passporting requirements or lack thereof had to be met and so a local hire was brought in; the second job thanks to the pandemic, but I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to dig into and live off my fund for a few round the world trips in F and staying at the best hotels. Goodbye round the world plans.

Anyway, I have had my first long haul trip this year (an essential trip) in the first half of this month, and after completing the quarantine requirements in full compliance with the local health authority rules, I managed to have a lavish Christmas lunch in the garden of a luxury hotel in Western India sitting under bougainvillea trees in 33C (apologies for making the point)😉.

Now I await news from the local health authority as to whether I have to go to a Covid-19 secure facility for a few weeks, as they have over-reacted to the verbal diarrhoea of a certain UK minister, such that they want to take all arrivals from the UK in the last month into the facility. Thank you Minister!

If all goes well, then I will hopefully receive permission to enter Malaysia for a few weeks and thereafter I aim to visit Kenya to see my friends there after a long time. Emirates has some good deals for this trip.

Thanks to the aforementioned chaos following the ‘out of control’ UK mutant virus news in the local press, all flights to and from the UK have been cancelled by the government. As a result, the airline has cancelled my return flight and suspended my ticket but left it open for a year. I’ll find my way back to the UK eventually, although I really haven’t felt very welcome since the Brexit campaign began a few years ago. But then again, I’m not feeling welcome here either and who knows what it will be like in Malaysia.

Perhaps I should write a longer story about this adventure when I return and request Rob to consider publishing it on the blog! Now that is something I can look forward to doing.

Thanks to Rob and the team for keeping us updated during the year. Just hope 2021 starts with countries actually allowing us in and BA not cancelling any more routes. Getting more difficult by the day to use those points

Merry Christmas all the way from Canada!

Merry Xmas to all. In Antigua curtsy to HFP point strategies & avios bagging. 4 of us in club, even extended our stay for no extra fees. All down to what I’ve learnt on this site.

    Merry Christmas everyone!
