IHG Rewards Club gives a 2nd credit card free night to anyone with an unused voucher

It left it VERY late in the day, but IHG Rewards Club has decided to do the decent thing to credit card holders who have unused free night vouchers.

The IHG Rewards Club Premium credit card, sadly no longer available to new applicants, gives a free night voucher when you spend £10,000 per card year.

If you have a certificate due to expire next week, it has now been extended to 31st August 2021.

Except ….. it’s better than that

It seems that IHG’s IT cannot cope with extending existing vouchers. This means that everyone has been given a SECOND voucher, valid for stays completed by 31st August 2021.

Note the wording here. The new voucher requires you to STAY by 31st August. Your existing voucher only requires you to BOOK by 31st December.

IHG has confirmed to us that BOTH vouchers can be used. In effect, everyone with an outstanding credit card free night due to expire in 2020 now has TWO free nights to use.

IHG is happy for you to use both of them together for a two night break.

Some people have lost out …..

Unfortunately some people have lost out here. Fearing that IHG was not going to extend their certificates, some readers have used them for poor value stays in recent weeks. After all, it is worth using a free night voucher even if the cash alternative is only £40 if you believe your voucher will expire. It would have been better if IHG could have moved more quickly on this.
