The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 15th December

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Booked a London to Santiago in First and returning from Lima to London in Business for June 2021 in the 50% off sale using a companion voucher. The return leg has just been cancelled. Am I right in thinking that they have to switch me to another Lima to London flight on any day that there is a seat available (cash or points)?

    • memesweeper says:

Yes. Not all agents are correctly briefed, but it seems most of them have got the memo now. If you hit an unhelpful one HUACA.

    • Charlieface says:

Yes, with another airline if necessary

      • memesweeper says:

I think it’s same dates, any airline, changed dates, with BA (or their partners). I’ve not actually tried to force changed dates on another carrier though.

  • Jason says:

Will the Langley fall into tier 3 under the London lockdown?

    • Magic Mike says:

Officially its South Bucks so neither London nor Slough.

In practice, probably best to call.

    • ChrisC says:

when the details of the revised tiers are announced put their post code (all of it) in the post code / tier finder on the government website and it will tell you what tier they will be in.

It will also tell you which local authority area it is in so no need for anyone to guess

      • TGLoyalty says:

The main point is we won’t know until tomorrow.

        • ChrisC says:

correct but the best source of info will be the government website and not people making supposistions based on an assumption of post codes which happened on here a couple of weeks aso,

          • TGLoyalty says:

            Agree

          • meta says:

I brought forward my stay by two days, so to avoid Tier 3 restrictions in London. When going out for a walk, I overheard the reception person that they are not going to close and they’ll accept guests even from Tier 3 areas. The official line seems to be it’s guests’ decision whether to travel and stay overnight and for what purpose.

Emirates – Amex to Emirates points transfers are still instant. Phoned up to check upgrade award availability before booking and was easy enough.

Etihad offer – although the spend doesn’t appear in the app yet, it seems I have been billed in GBP based on the iOS push notification and not the origin country currency.

    • Harry T says:

FYI Apple Pay iOS notifications always seem to be in GBP nowadays, even if you are eventually charged in the foreign currency. I think they do a snap conversion and display the transactions in GNO.

  • Brian says:

Anyone know whether CX should be implementing social distancing on their flight?

My partner is just took a flight from HKG and there is no social distancing measure in place whatsoever.

Utterly ridiculous level of biosecurity, I expected a lowered standard of service due to the management changes but not like this.

  • James says:

Stood waiting for my luggage after a CE BA flight and thinking what the actual point of their priority luggage tags is? Another thing BA fail to deliver on.

    • Jill ( Kinkell) says:

They haven’t delivered on that for years! Waste of sticky labels. Don’t know why check-in staff put them on.
Now Emirates….different matter. They provide a separate carousel for Business and First luggage!

    • YL says:

They are for decoration only in my opinion:-(

    • Doc says:

Priority has always worked with every other airline in One world alliance apart from BA and AA. Even SriLankan were brilliant with our bags coming out first and we were only flying short haul economy with them as OneWorld Emerald. Even flying First on BA has made no difference since never got the bags as priority when waiting to collect them and invariably our bags always seems to come out last!!!! Complete waste of priority tag.

    • Jonathan says:

They openly admit they don’t do priority luggage handling on short haul. For long haul, the priority tag is useless but the actual label is coded so the case will be loaded in a separate First or Business crate. These are supposed to be loaded last & therefore unloaded first.

The baggage handlers couldn’t care less if that fails to translate to arrival order at the carousel though unlike eg. with Cathay in HKG where they’ll put the non-priority bags to one side till all the priority have been delivered. On balance BA’s system delivers everyone’s baggage quicker as they don’t artificially delay some bags to massage the ego of premium passengers!

    • Charlieface says:

LHR officially ignore priority tags, so it only sometimes works even at outstations

      • Crafty says:

I forwarded to the end so it took more like 10 seconds. Also got the points.

  • illuminatus says:

Does Harvey Nichols offer on Amex include cumulative spend, or single transaction?

  • Kiln says:
