The HfP chat thread – Monday 14th December

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

But anyway, has anyone checked if The Langley will be going into Tier 3? 🤣 I have no stays booked there now till next summer so it might be safe.

  • KBuffett says:

Received my first order from Mr Porter today. Impressive packaging! I spent over £350 to get £100 back from AmEx. Does anyone know if I choose to exchange an item, will they refund and recharge, thus compromising my AmEx offer?

    • DodgyDCF says:

Please kindly return for store credit and repurchase what you want to exchange, Mr P only exchange sizes like for like item.

    • Harry T says:

They are a class act but a little slow to refund at the moment. Probably just swamped by Black Friday wreckage! Packaging is indeed sumptuous.

  • Alan says:

    Can anyone tell me:

if the Small Shops offer can be used on both the main and supplementary card at the same retailer.

Where I can find the anniversary date for my card

    Thanks

    • Sloth says:

      SS – yes

Anniversary date – look at statements or ring and ask

    • Anna says:

If it’s a BA card it will match your spend tracker

    • Craig says:

Yes it can but be wary of ‘gaming’, so try not to go to the same retailer at the same time and spend exactly £10! We take a run round several local butchers, then a few days later do the same run using the other card.

      • TGLoyalty says:

I’m not sure they look that closely if it’s one or two merchants.

I did atleast 3 merchants with all our cards one after the other.

I wouldn’t go mad and do 10 merchants like that though.

I think I’m going to end this SS with a pitiful amount of credits.

      • ChrisC says:

I think the issue AMEX has (and I think Rob mentioned it in the shop small article last week) is where people had been splitting the SAME transaction across several cards – cost £10 and putting £ 5 on each card meaning in effect AMEX has paid the full cost.

No issue if you go and buy something and get the cash back and your supp card holder also makes a totally separate purchase.

        • Genghis says:

Surely if something cost £10 and you’re putting £5 on each card, you get nothing?
You mean if something costs £20 and you’re putting £10 on two cards, hence getting 2 x £5 credits, then Amex would pay half?

    • Brighton Belle says:

Only if you add the offer to their card before you spend on ss
