EDF has an exclusive energy deal for American Express Business cardholders

Despite having an American Express Business Platinum card, no-one had ever bothered to tell me that Amex Business has a gas and electricity deal with EDF Energy.

You can see details here. The tariff is called ‘American Express Fixed for Business’. It claims to be EDF’s cheapest fixed-term business tariff.

For clarity, this tariff is only available for business customers and not for domestic premises.

HFP Amex American Express Business Gold Card

You need to be an ‘American Express business card holder’ to apply – it is not defined any further as far as I can tell. You will earn 1 Membership Rewards point for every £1 you spend.

It is not clear if you earn these points purely because EDF allows you to pay your bill on this tariff with your American Express Business card (which would earn 1 point per £1) or if these are separate bonus points. I can’t find any indication that EDF accepts Amex. If anyone has any further information please let us know.

EDF does accept Amex as a payment method – at least for my “home”/domestic account. I pay via the website rather than the automated phone line. There is no fee as far as I can tell.

  • Vin says:

EDF accepts ‘overpayment’ for domestic bills with Amex with a reduction in monthly DD which can be negotiated using the chat function.

IHG have tweeted this in the last day, responding to a question about US free night certificates but maybe valid here too:
“We understand your concern around the 2020 expiration date of your Anniversary Night certificate. Later this month, we are planning to share an update with cardholders about anniversary certificates with a 2020 expiration date before any 2020 certificates expire.”
    Fingers crossed for an extension…

    • Mark M says:

That’s very useful, thanks. I was wondering how to plead my case for Free Night extension, but maybe I won’t have to….

I’ve been on the EDF AMEX business tariff for 2 years. It’s a bit messy when you have to pay. You cannot use the automated system and have to talk to someone instead. Most times, the agents have no idea about the tariff & encourage you to set up a direct debit, which of course, negates the offer. You don’t get bonus points.
