Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 9th December

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Looking for some insight, I have the spend £100 for 1500 on my BAPP. Since I activated it I have easily spent over £100 cumulatively but it has not triggered. I’ve seen a number of people say it doesn’t need to be a single £100+ transaction. Anyone had similar issue? Any suggestions?

    • Anna says:

I had the email a few days ago but the 1500 avios still haven’t appeared. Cumulative spend.

    • Paul says:

Have spent, cumulatively, around £400, with no news, and then £112 today and bingo, email confirmation of spend £100 for 1500Avios, so I’m presuming it’s not cumulative….

      • Alex says:

Hmmm interesting, won’t struggle to go over the £100 spend, it just goes against others comments. IT must be having a funny one

        • AJA says:

I got it on cumulative spend but was surprised that it wasn’t based on £100 in one go.

She’s certainly doing something….like putting Highland in Tier 1, then saying we can’t have folk in the house.! Er….So it’s Tier 1.5! and Liz…. I can’t get Curve either, on my iPhone 5s! Time to upgrade ( then I might also get the Scottish Test and Protect app as well)

  • BuildTheWall says:

Essex and Surrey could be in tier 3 by 16th.

This may put a dent on some European holidays next year…

“Most Britons will be barred from visiting EU countries from January 1 when pandemic safety rules that allow free travel within the bloc stop applying to the UK.

The end of the Brexit transition period means that the UK will be subject to a system that only allows non-essential travel from a handful of non-EU countries with low coronavirus infection rates, the European Commission said.”

Excellent news. Spanish hotels will be nice and peaceful. I am sure that won’t change in the foreseeable future. If I know the Spanish, they will be very happy with this.

apart from the ones that work in Benidorm hotels and restaurants!

  • Kevin Devlin says:

I wonder what will the rules be for travel from UK but on an EU (Irish) passport?
