The HfP chat thread – Sunday 6th December

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

IC Park Lane is closed until January 9th – it was taking bookings for Christmas when I last checked! Is London expecting to go into Tier 3?

    • Andrew says:

London R rate is now one of the highest – higher than Midlands and North. So quite possibly.

    • Blindman says:

Both my NYE IHG reward nights at Indigo Leicester (back up) and the Crowne Plaza London the city were cancelled about 3 weeks ago.
      Obviously not enough customers.

    • TGLoyalty says:

If they were expecting T3 it would be strange to then plan to open on 9th it won’t change back to T2 that quickly

Suspect cash bookings were low and they’ll send customers to their other hotels.

  • Roselin says:

Has anyone been to Berners Tavern recently, have they changed merchants at all or are they still charging to the London Edition?

    • Niall says:

I was there yesterday. Transaction still pending, but comes up a London Edition. Fingers crossed credit happens when transaction moves from pending

      • Roselin says:

ah fingers crossed for you! If you could let me know that’ll be great, hoping to go soon. Thank you

        • Niall says:

Still working at Berners Tavern. Received the cash back on my £400 spend. Actually managed to go over £600, so put £200 on another card and triggered £75 of £200 Marriott offer on that one also!

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s not something that can just be changed overnight. I really doubt it won’t be edition.

  • Kevin says:

If the last night of the 50 night occurs on 31/12, would that be any risk to get the plat and suite night from Marriott if check out on 2nd Jan.

  • dragonfly says:

same here. would like to know as still hoping to use the amex plat for a nice celebration (sapphire anniversary today), instead of staying. thanks.

  • dragonfly says:

sorry meant to post re berners tavern.

It is just me or is the new Reward Flight Finder a complete f**k up?

When searching for a specified period of time it returns destinations for which there is NO availability at all. It also returns – when searching for first class flights – what appears to be every EU destination (to which BA does not fly First).

The new “upgrade” appears worse than useless, it essentially gives me a list of destination which may – or may – not have availability during my dates of travel. I could work that out without paying for it!

    • DT says:

Reward Flight Finder and Seat Spy are completely useless now, have been for a few months. Seems something in BA’s API changed and neither site can pull down the data correctly anymore.
Oddly they have not even mentioned this on their sites, I suppose they still want the traffic and Seat Spy were happy to continue taking my subscription while their service didn’t work.

    • John says:

Not saying you did this, but when I looked I assumed everything with a circle was saying availability and I thought it was saying first availability for every day as that is what I had searched for.
It was only when I looked later that I realised availability is whatever colours the circles around the edges are and in fact there were only a couple in the First colour and the chart was actually correct!

  • Kevin says:

Just to confirm all the beauty GC I bought from M are definitely can be redeemed at JL after checked and tried in the store just now

  • Tony says:

Anyone else not seeing shop small on their Amex? My wife has it. I only used it once or twice last summer as we were quarantined. Got some use out of it last Christmas including using both cards in the same bar to buy two rounds of drinks but I certainly wasn’t taking the proverbial.

    • Jody says:

If you check the chat over the last couple of days this has been a problem for lots of people, including me. I phoned on Friday, got it manually added to my card and my supp card, but was told it could take 48 hours to show. Luckily both of us received an email about 4 hours later saying it had been added, and could then see it in our saved offers. Used last night, we went out for an anniversary meal which we booked ages ago, and fortuitously they were part of Amex shop small.

    • DT says:

Had this problem on two of our cards, I spoke to Amex Chat and they had it added within minutes

      • Jimbob says:

Yep, messaged them in the App, didn’t take long, once they responded
