The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 2nd December

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/12/02/the-hfp-chat-thread-wednesday-2nd-december/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    • mzb says:

Boots has no appointments in most units in London, until the 29th of December when I checked this morning. If that works for you then you better jump at it.

  • Alex M says:

Got pop up window in curve yesterday offering 10% at Amazon, got excited but since them I get Network error or Something went wrong when trying to view my account within the app. Updating the app didn’t help. Has anyone experienced this and managed to fix it? TIA!

  • Rhys says:

Anyone buy one of the BA storage boxes/galley equipment/trolleys that would be happy to talk to the press? Give me a shout – rhys@headforpoints.com thanks!

  • Nick Burch says:

Boots is only 120 quid, wide range of stores offering it, but appointment slots proving hard to come by…

Use the appointment checker at https://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/QnomyAppointsView?apptCategory=P&apptType=CCOV19&langId=-1&categoryId=&productId=&catalogId=28501&storeId=11352 before you buy the test just in case they don’t have anything near you!

I won’t head back to my family this xmas, cancelled my ticket as I don’t want to put them at risk, so is there anywhere nice I can go (i don’t mind 14 days stay at home on the way back) between xmas and ny? 😀

  • Chris says:

Is anyone else having trouble paying HMRC with Curve Metal?
The HMRC website looks like it is going to accept payment with a small surcharge,
but then when you press to pay, it comes up card type not accepted.

    • Steve says:

Yes, I had this yesterday. Paying Employer’s PAYE, it let me fill in the card details, identified it as a Mastercard Debit (so no charge as I have a personal Curve rather than the business/corporate one) but when I clicked Pay now, it immediately displayed an error: “We are unable to process cards of this type”. Although I hope this isn’t permanent as this has been a huge source of miles for me recently, I think this avenue may have closed now.

Bizarrely, I tried a Corporation Tax payment immediately afterwards and that went through fine. I’ve noticed that each payment form on gov.uk seems to have its own rules, though – DVLA used to charge to accept the old Capital on Tap prepaid card even when HMRC accepted it free, and now different taxes seem to have their own rules.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

Look back through recent days chat about Personal vs Business cards at HMRC.

  • Max says:

Does anyone know how long it takes for Amex MR points to be pooled between 2 cards? I took out a rewards card and cancelled my gold. I was told at the time that the points from the gold would be pooled, but the points balance still isn’t appearing on the rewards card. Amex claim it can take 10 days but I’ve done this in the past and I’m sure it was instant?

    • Rob says:

When I have moved between my UK and ICC cards it has been a week.

    • Nick_C says:

Took two months and a telephone complaint in my case. ARCC taken out 14 April. PRGC finally closed on 14 June once the points had been manually credited to the ARCC. This was after trying online chat and a couple of regular phone calls.

    • Adam says:

Mine was very quick – 1-2 working days.

  • HJ says:

Does anyone know the situation with BA Heathrow lounges at the moment? This is what the website is saying:

    Changes to our lounges

“Our Galleries South Club and Galleries First lounges at Heathrow, Terminal 5 are open however some of our departure, arrivals and partner lounges are temporarily closed, please click here for further information.“

    And:

“ British Airways Galleries South Club, First Lounge and Concorde Terrace (Open)
    (LHR) Heathrow Airport Terminal 5”

Anyone there currently or can verify it’s true? I’m due to fly in a couple of day.

    Thanks

    • TGLoyalty says:

Which lounge exactly do you want to verify is open?

Galleries South, 1st and CCT is open

I also hear First has proper crockery and glassware back in the air.

      • TGLoyalty says:

*it’s actually full “pre covid” club and first service including special meals from mid Jan

Must be a job lot of crap boxes to get through

      • HJ says:

Fab news. Thanks TG. Was interested in Concorde especially. Added bonus with the proper crockery/glassware in flight.

        • TGLoyalty says:

re crockery/glassware not sure what the rollout plan is and when other than everything back by Jan 20th. including sleepwear.

Possible you may not get it if flying in a couple of days.
