British Airways to restart flights to Dhaka after 12 years

Local media reports suggest that British Airways is looking to relaunch a service to Dhaka, in Bangladesh, soon.

British Airways has flown to Dhaka before, and last operated a scheduled service to the city in 2009.

With transatlantic traffic stalled, BA is hoping to make better use of its aircraft to other destinations. In September, it announced it would be returning to Lahore and increasing the frequency of its Islamabad flights.

By launching Dhaka it is betting that the ‘visiting friends and relatives’ market picks up faster than its core US business, which remains closed to passengers who have been in the UK and Europe recently.

  • Sideshow Bob says:

I didn’t see a Curve card Amazon offer but I only have the free card. Does that make a difference?

    • John says:

I got it on the free card

    • Harry T says:

Just logged into Curve and seen the offer. I have the free card. Can’t find it again now I’ve dismissed the offer!

      • Alex Sm says:

You don’t need it because it’s just there and you don’t need a code or anything, just spend 100 and get 10 back

  • Dubious says:

I notice that the Melia points T&Cs says:
[From the date of purchase, the Gift Card recipient will have six months to activate their code. Once activated, they have one year to use the points.]

Do we know if the points are actually ring fenced and will expire if not used within that 1 year horizon?

    • Eugene says:

I did this last year. Spend 5 euro on site to buy 1000 extra and my balance stayed live

  • James says:

Trying to redeem my Melia points but getting an error page every time I hit the “Redeem” button. Anyone else had this problem?

  • s879 says:

I saw the email for Curve offer and clicked on the link and bought the £100 giftcard. It’s only showing as 1% ie gbp1 in my app. Was I supposed to add it like we do for Amex?

  • Chris H says:

Any idea how much the 1st class lounge costs? Or is it only 1st class passengers?

    • Jonathan says:

Its about an extra £20, or free if you buy the fully flex ticket I think. They recently changed the rules to say no children under 8.

  • Jonathan says:

On Stena you also get free lounge access if you have a Stena gold card – and its pretty easy to get.

  • Mark Peterborough says:

Pity about Now TV, that was exactly my plan after avios was leaving.

    • Jonny says:

Yes is a shame about NOW TV as you could also combine with special offers – so it essentially works as cash.
It is still possible to order a load of vouchers though and add as credit to keep you going for a while.

    • Gary says:

I came on to say the same thing. I just loaded my account with enough credit to keep me going for the next 6 months and I’m on an offer to so it’s cost me very little in CC vouchers. You can convert up until end of Jan.

      • Mark Peterborough says:

Cheers , I think I will convert some of mine before the deadline for future use.

  • John says:

Stena Plus lounges on their Irish sea ferries have been around for over a decade!

What they are actually announcing is three new ferries on those routes, not the lounges.

They are nice though, and the main advantage is if you have a car you get priority disembarkation when you arrive

    • Rhys says:

You can tell we don’t write about ferries often!

      • BuildTheWall says:

Rhys, why not do a review of the ferry including the lounge and cabins? Can combine with some hotel reviews on either side.

        • Rob says:

Could do actually. Check out the Pullman is Liverpool and then try something in Belfast.

          • SM says:

The Merchant hotel in Belfast? I will miss their cocktail bar this Christmas 🙁
