British Airways to restart flights to Dhaka after 12 years

Local media reports suggest that British Airways is looking to relaunch a service to Dhaka, in Bangladesh, soon.

British Airways has flown to Dhaka before, and last operated a scheduled service to the city in 2009.

With transatlantic traffic stalled, BA is hoping to make better use of its aircraft to other destinations. In September, it announced it would be returning to Lahore and increasing the frequency of its Islamabad flights.

By launching Dhaka it is betting that the ‘visiting friends and relatives’ market picks up faster than its core US business, which remains closed to passengers who have been in the UK and Europe recently.

Re Melia would have helped me to decide whether to look at this or not if a sentence or two about some typical or current points cost per night was included in the article – say an example in each of 2 or 3 cities 1 UK 1Spain 1 other country, would be included.

Right now I have no idea what 10,000 Melia points would buy me but I know this off the top of my head for IHG, Hilton and Accor. As a relatively less known hotel group the usual quick list of their brands upfront might also have given me a push me to look closer.

Hi All. What is Curve cash card? I have a the free Curve card but it’s currently blocked as I had to order a new one as it my old one was lost. I have the email about the 10% off Amazon too so a little annoyed about not being able to purchase the Melia points. Hopefully my new card will arrive tomorrow. Then again, I could use my Halifax Clarity MC to purchase from Amazon.de

I have 9386 Melia Rewards points. My account shows them expiring 19/02/21. Do they expire even with status? I’m Gold. If so, If I was to book a hotel for April using the points or some of the points would this stop me losing them? Or would the points not be taken until the day of my check in to the hotel?

  Buy 1,000 points for €5 and your problem is solved.
  
  Booking may also reset them but I don’t know what happens if you then cancel the booking – does the date remain a year in advance? Points are taken immediately.

For the ferries, always good to remember the exceptional deal where for £40ish you can travel from any UK railway station to Dublin. Have used that many times – you can upgrade to the ferry lounge for around £20 (paid onboard or at the terminal), and even as someone who loves flying I have to say it’s so much nicer and easier than the plane. Am looking forward to trying the new boats, I haven’t done any of them yet.

Oh and Rhys, if you do the Liverpool route… note the ferry actually leaves from the Birkenhead side of the river!

Must just have been too late both times. As an indication, I paid 28,000 points per night including breakfast for a stay in the top notch Meliá Boutique hotel in Mallorca. They have some nice properties like this, but quite a few humdrum ones as well.
