The HfP chat thread – Friday 27th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/27/the-hfp-chat-thread-friday-27th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • OllieE says:

Is anyone having issue paying IHG with bendy? I keep getting a message saying I’ve exceeded my card limit despite nowhere near there (prior to the new limit today as well)

    • Steve says:

Why are you using Bendy to the creative one? Just pay directly

      • OllieE says:

        Creation with creation?
Does that work with no fees?

        • Travel Strong says:

Passes through the MCC so it is no different. Paying creation with curve is a waste of limits, always.

        • TGLoyalty says:

You can’t pay creation with a creation card.

          • The Urbanite says:

Unless Curved which some people here are actually doing (I wouldn’t risk it!). I imagine usual 6012 limits would apply.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Well yes why going direct isn’t an option.

I’d say it’s very risky business paying a card with itself.

    • The Urbanite says:

You have exceeded the limit Creation have put on MCC 6012 transactions.

  • Jimmy says:

Anyone else think this Virgin BF deal is a crazy good!?
    Yesterday I managed to get 3 x upper class tickets LHR-MCO for a total of 89000 miles + £2k.

    how is that even possible?

It is in august however and I used two credit card vouchers but that is amazing value for what are £8030 flights!

    • Mo says:

Does seem like a crazy good deal, especially with the upgrade vouchers

Even better if you’re Silver/Red FC and can then use one voucher to get the 2nd UC for no miles at all.

    • babyg says:

      i paid 40k miles + £1.5k for 3 x upper return LHR-Barbados (used 2 vouchers)… good times!

      • babyg says:

actually i just checked (because 40k seemed low when thinking about it)
Redemption – booking… looks like i also actually paid 90k… hmmm this is not what the agent said on the phone….
        LHR-BGI Virgin Points -27,400
        LHR-BGI Virgin Points -62,400
not 100% sure how it was all calculated to be fair..

        • Jimmy says:

Yes I cant see how mine was calculated either. Where did you get your redemption amount?

      • Jimmy says:

Nice one – Does anyone know when the redemption miles are accurately shown on your account? At the moment its showing 0 which isn’t right at all.

  • TGLoyalty says:

I think come august they’ll be £3600 flights.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Something going on with reply’s today. That was meant for Jimmy.

    • Jimmy says:

Really? Due to covid or prices being too high?

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

I’d say both. You have to remember that many people have a lot saved up for a holiday right now because this year got canceled so they’ll “splash the cash” on the next one

        • Jimmy says:

Wouldn’t that mean the prices will go up rather than down?

        • TGLoyalty says:

There will still be over supply and not to burst a bubble but I very much doubt the global economy is going to recover in 2021. Lots of people will tighten their belts and the “holiday” fund will be the rainy day fund or perhaps it was already spent on the extension.

I guess I’m saying there will be many losers as well as some that are unaffected or those that’ll win (perhaps they got contracts supplying PPE)

Good thing is if cheap cash fares comes along you can cancel your redemption for £30 each.

  • YC says:

Looking for flights to BGI in Dec 21. Any way of making use of the Virgin BF 50% deal?

    • Mo says:

@YC, unfortunately not. Offer ends on 30th Nov and Virgin only let you book around 355 days in advance I believe so won’t have those flights available to book.

    • Rob says:

No, flights won’t be bookable until January.

  • Mo says:

That still seems quite cheap for only 2 vouchers.

Assume you booked one at premium with a voucher costing 17,400

And then another at UC using the 2nd voucher for a companion so 1.5x 86,100

I figure those 3 flights should have cost 103,500 on non peak dates?

  • Mo says:

    And 1.5x 57,400 to equal 86,100. Not 1.5x 86,100

    • babyg says:

hmmm perhaps its a bank error in my favour, collect £10…
my flights were off peak out, peak return. 1 voucher was a 2for1, 1 voucher was prem to upper.
i think its been priced wrong, they have charged to prem as 27400 (peak only), and have charged to upper correct as (62400)… but they didn’t 50% mile for the 2for1

  • FlyingJ says:

Bendy declining everything for anyone else?

    • TGLoyalty says:

When you say everything what do you mean and which underlying card(s)?

Used mine earlier at Morrison’s only £7 though.

  • FloriGuy says:

OK. I know Bendy, Curve and Beardy but not sure on Che? Is that a reference to what he did in Cuba?
