  I had First flights to USA booked earlier this year that were cancelled. I took the e-voucher as they were booked with Avios and 2-4-1 that would’ve expired in August.
  I then booked flights to JNB next year which were cheaper in terms of Avios and taxes.
  I am being told that the refund of money and Avios go to a new e-voucher and can not be returned to my account (Avois & Bank).

    Yes, refund to a new voucher unless it’s a very small amount. Otherwise you could book F to SYD, voucher it then rebook economy to MAN and get practically everything refunded.

    I did the same last week with £225 to be refunded, and was surprised when told it would be refunded to my credit card rather to a new voucher. It hasn’t appeared yet though.

    Does it depend on the reason for the FTV perhaps? Mine was for a cancellation initiated by BA, not me.

    I took a FTV for Japan flights with a 241 and rebooked a domestic trip in the BA sale (painful with the voucher but was going to expire otherwise).
    Very helpful phone agent suggested this instead of cancelling to save the fees and assured me I would get the avios refund instantly (I did) and the cash (~£1200) once the new flights were ticketed (happened last week).

  Is anyone else waiting cynically here to see what happens with these 5million+ Americans all crowding on planes and in airports for Turkey day today…in terms of whether there will be some gigantic spike in cases over the next 2 weeks as a result? Because what happens there is likely to happen similarly here with the Christmas relaxation of restrictions. Should be be prepared for an immense lockdown in January?

    I think the US situation is going to see a serious setback, but hopefully things won’t be as bad here because people generally don’t cram into planes to get home for Xmas. Also a massive majority of people polled here think relaxing the rules for Xmas here is madness so hopefully that will keep things under control a bit.
    I’m not planning any travel to America for at least the first half of next year!

      I am REALLY curious to see what happens at New Year here, I fear people will just have parties regardless and there’s little hope of there being the resources to enforce the regulations. NYE in a normal year is often unmanageable without extra groups to police.

  Any thoughts on the new Virgin Escape Passes? Book a mystery holiday and the destination is confirmed closer to the time and depends on quarantine rules at both ends

    I thought it was only guaranteed in relation to uk quarantine. Still risky.

    Guaranteed quarantine-free holiday applies to inbound UK travel only and does not apply to any COVID-19 restrictions, policies or procedures that may be imposed at your holiday destination.

  When purchasing other gift cards using the WM store gift cards, are there any potential issues?

  Is it technically forbidden and one could get lumbered with thousands of pounds of cards that are stuck being valid only for Ken’s selection on Market Street, Sunday’s Silver Side and The Best?

    I read the TnCs on their gift cards and they don’t specifically prohibit buying other gift cards.

    I, and many others here, have bought Morrison’s gift cards for these offers and have then used them to buy other retailers’ gift cards, petrol, even groceries. You get MORE points on both stages.
    The only potential problem is that the confirmation slip does not quote the last four digits of the card number for their own cards, whereas it does for others.
    But I have never had a problem with the hundreds of cards I have bought at various retailers.

  Few more adventures with Morrisons following on from the failed attempt a few days ago. Tried a different store. Went to the kiosk, with the girl at checkout saying again can only load £100 on to Morrisons GC. She then did something on the till and voila £250 loaded on a few cards with email coming through shortly confirming the use of the offer. Happy days.

    They have to manually add the value if it’s above £100. The POS screen defaults to a few common values (£10, £20, £50, £100 etc.) a bit like an ATM does with withdrawal amounts.

      Lady came to help me when I was self-checking out earlier. Was worried she may query why I was buying so many gift cards when she asked why I was adding morissons more cards to add weight to the machine after putting through each card. In the end she just wanted to help me get it through quicker so got me some more leaflets. £2200 done on one card. Will do my other card soon
