  Need to stay near Loughborough Uni Sunday night prior to a job interview, can anyone suggest a decent hotel nearby, ideally in Hilton or IHG?

    There’s a Premier Inn and Travelodge in town, nothing in the immediate vicinity of the campus so you’ll be walking for 20+ minutes or on a bus or taxi.

    If you are driving North to South on the M1 – i like the Doubletree Nottingham gateway. Free parking, 5 minutes from the M1. Very smart rooms, breakfast is very well cooked. Cheap at the moment 15k HH. You will need to pay for parking near the uni in any event – about 30 minutes from the hotel.

    Contact Emyr and ask – there are a lot of hotels which he can only do at the same rate as booking direct. The posher the hotel, the more likely you are to get Emyr’s special rate! I imagine he would be very glad of the buisness right now. He booked 2 stays for me in January which will now be cancelled, unfortunately.

      He can’t get you a cheaper rate but he can get various extras – room upgrade, free breakfast, room credit – as long as the hotel is part of his special access programme.

      Like Anna I had several bookings made via him this year and i had to cancel all of them!

      Just send him a message with your requirements.

    1) great hotel, high standard of rooms + furnishings. fab lounge, and v friendly manager there (opened some Moet for us in the lounge). Check beforehand whether the pool facilities are open etc)

    @ Nick G, I’ve stayed numerous times at Bankside. Never disappointed. It’s a great hotel with very good service, one of my favourites.

    ii isa payment rejected for me today for first time, values of 4500, 1000 and 400 all failed.
    (Vanilla bent over creatively)

  I’ve just had an email from EasyJet saying our February flights to Vienna are cancelled. How do you get the most out of the re-booking option? It says re-book “for free”, do you still not need to pay the difference?

    Assuming it hasn’t changed I’ve made use of rebooking for any destination at any time 3 times with Easyjet. No difference to pay, my original flights were all between £100-£130, we’ve rebooked to various places like Tenerife at Easter that should have cost almost £900 for no extra cost!

    Is there no link in your email?

    This week my cancellation email from easyjet was significantly less flexible than previous months. Earlier in the year it let you chance to any destination any date for freem

    The cancellation mail I had this time only lets me change to departure and arrival airports in the same countries as the original booking.

    So I could fly from LGW instead of NCL for example, or to SEV instead of MAD…. But not get any bargains whatsoever in my case.

      I’ve just gone on to Easyjet and look and was going to come back on here and say the same. Now looks as if you have to book alternative flights to the same country. Nowhere near as generous as their policy was earlier in the year!

        It was particularly restrictive given that my destination country only has 1 airport 😂

        On the other hand, everything else I wanted to book was only 24.99 in the new sale anyway – so just soaked up some cheap fairs in exchange for part of an existing travel voucher

  Hi All,
  maybe this is going to help someone:

  A couple of weeks ago I applied for a free Virgin card and got rejected.
  I mailed them as suggested, quoting:
  – my Experian and Credit Karma credit scores,
  – my salary,
  – the fact that I have not missed any payments on my other credit card,
  – balance history from my savings account showing history for the last couple of years.
  Given all the above, they reconsidered and accepted.

      I had the free card, the limit was £500, I cancelled it upgraded to the premium card because of the now expired promotion on spending £500 or more with Virgin Atlantic / Holidays, and although I should’ve been automatically rejected straight away since I’d already held one of their cards in the last 6 months, I got accepted immediately, being told I’ve got a limit of £2100.
      When I called them up to tell them I was going for the premium card, they explained to me that I would need to appeal the rejection (which bizarrely enough never happened), as per the process of upgrading between the two cards.
      I also had a very similar experience when I first went for their free card, being rejected for no apparent reason whatsoever, then a couple or few months later, (I can’t remember now) I did the pre-credit check, and was informed that if I applied I will be accepted

  So are UK domestic tourism and the hotel industry totally shafted now? Tier 3 residents are discouraged from travelling, and I doubt folks in tier 2 areas are going to want to stay in their local hotels and visit attractions they’ve seen before.

      @Harry T I wonder whether hotels will open. The fact that there is now a possibility that tier change every week from mid-December as announced by Hancock, some will decide to shut till end of March. No-one can plan anything with weekly changes.

      Apparently you can travel abroad but not to London! Although you could probably fly in and out of London. Very sensible measures!

          It’s advice, not law. Businesses in London are begging for customers to “save the economy”. If they can only come from Tier 1 the economy’s doomed.

        Both Tier 2 and 3 can’t socialise indoors and advised to minimise journeys. A person in Tier 3 who doesn’t go to work or shopping is much less of a risk than, say, a nurse who lives in Tier 1 but works in a hospital in Tier 2 or 3. Risk is much less about where you live than what your lifestyle is.

          You say look at gov website and then when someone shows you why you should not be going to London you want to ignore it!
          Up to each person whether they follow the rules – just don’t pretend you are not willing to break rules as you want to go to London

  Does anyone know if the current Selfridges offer of spend £100 get £30 back work on two separate transactions?

  My order came to £106, but it included a £10 delivery pass which was charged separately so quite annoyed at this happening!

    People were reporting it’s not cumulative, so you might need to contact Amex to get the credit.

    It did actually work for me with the spend £150 get £30.

    perhaps its been coded to allow cumulative web transactions Merchant code will be different (because of how they split and bill on despatch) I know instore ones haven’t.
