The HfP chat thread – Thursday 26th November

We have decided to run this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

By default, HfP shows the last page of comments under the article.  If you want to see the first page of comments and read them all from beginning to end in order, click here: https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/11/26/the-hfp-chat-thread-thursday-26th-november/comment-page-1.  The page will refresh with this article but the comments will now show the first page and not the last page.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    • Andrew says:

London escaped T3 to be in T2

    • JonD says:

Can’t believe Manchester is still tier 3. That’s local restrictions for this area since July.

      • Sandgrounder says:

With the mass testing support it will bring, should be able to move down soon. There are still plenty of problem areas across the county, a few still rising over the last week, although the overall trend is down.

        • Charlieface says:

I’d be interested to know why you think mass testing is going to help

      • Anna says:

We’re the same over the border. Infections literally clustered in specific streets but no assistance for those people in terms of offering them somewhere to isolate or mass testing for the wider community. Our council got a load of money from the government for agreeing to Tier 3 but noone seems to have seen any of it!

        • TGLoyalty says:

Small Businesses which receive rates refilled should have been contacted and given a grant.

  • Blindman says:

Site crashes all the time LOL

  • Nick says:

Am i able to buy Ernie Bonds with my IHG Rewards Mastercard?

  • Nik says:

Do you think HSBC will run “annual” Avios transfer bonus in December?

  • Peggerz says:

Picked up a BA 1st tea set after the website was refreshed last night.

  • stevenhp1987 says:

Are airport hotels allowed to open in Tier 3? Cannot see any exemptions for that and if London goes into Tier 3, that may cause a lot of problems.

Got a hotel booked on the Slough side for Heathrow for one night on a park and fly package for Christmas.

    • dave says:

      London is tier 2

      • stevenhp1987 says:

Yes, Slough is tier 3… I have an airport hotel booked on the Slough side.

Can re-book into the London side, but curious to know what happens if London is upped to Tier 3 by Christmas.

    • Anna says:

Sky News is saying Slough is in Tier 3.

    • Magic Mike says:

More importantly… do we think the Langley will be Tier 2 or 3? 🙂

      • stevenhp1987 says:

        Slough postcode… So tier 3

        • ChrisC says:

Post codes are irrelavent. They extend over wide areas not just a specific local council.

It’s the local council area that matters.

If it’s not located in the Slough Borough then it will be in T2.

          • Anna says:

Iver looks to fall within Slough but I guess we need the post code checker back up and running!

          • Chris K says:

Her Majesty’s Government website says Tier 2 from 2nd Dec for the Langley’s specific postcode SL3 6DU (South Bucks).

Whereas another random SL3 postcode (within Slough) says Tier 3.

          • Stanley says:

We’ve matched the postcode SL3 6DU to South Bucks District Council.

            From 2 December
South Bucks District Council will be in tier 2: high alert.

          • Ben says:

Langley postcode is in tier 2! Checked that before my home address!

          • ChrisC says:

In fact the Langly post code SL3 6DU is under the South Bucks District Council and Buckinghamnsire County Council so Tier 2

        • TGLoyalty says:

Don’t use the first 3/4 characters of a postcode to decide what council they are in.

Slough and only slough is in T2 not Buckingshire or Berkshire

      • meta says:

Langley is in Buckinghamshire so Tier 2, but things might change by 17 Dec.

  • Jord says:

I was wondering if anyone could help. I’m a BA silver card holder, tier point year end of 8th Feb i only have 65 TP but the silver should carry over to Feb 2022. Do your tier points also carry over with the year extension? As I’m planning a trip in business to CPT in January but feel its a waste of Tier points so close to my year end if they don’t carry over. I could hit the 450 threshold by flying J domestic over christmas but will that extend my membership to Feb 2023?

    • ChrisC says:

No. Your TP counter will reset on the 9th Feb.

    • AJA says:

I don’t think earning TP before 8 Feb 2021 is worth it just to maintain status as I don’t think that will extend your Silver status to 2023. If you earn 450 TP after 9 Feb 2021 that will extend status to 31 Mar 2023.

      • Jord says:

Thank you, I need to make the trip in Jan so considering going with Virgin and taking up their Black Friday deal

      • Jord says:

Actually, what happens if I fly out on the 25th Jan, BA can bring them over to the next year if they’re within 2 weeks right?

        • ChrisC says:

          No

It only works with flights in the 14 days after your collection years ends if it would get you past a status threshold

And even if they did it wouldn’t help you the 25th is more than 14 days before the 8th February

  • r* says:

For missing IHG credit card free nights, do you need to contact creation or IHG?

    • Ash Raj says:

Yes i contacted Creation and was told its nothing to do with them

      • Anna says:

That doesn’t sound quite right as surely Creation has to notify IHG that you’ve spent the £10k?

    • the_real_a says:

You need to contact the 2 ladies that run the IHG relationship at creation. Call up the fraud line, and get the compliance staff to find the relevant lady. The compliance team generally have a bit of common sense – the front line call center staff…. well i prefer discussing my issues with a bag of concrete.
